Job ResponsibilitiesThis position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, 220 Faison Drive, Columbia SC 29203.The Office of Mental Health's mission is to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses. We provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina. As the Nursing Assistant (Non-Certified) / Behavioral Health Assistant , working under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, you will perform therapeutic care and assist patients in meeting their needs and performing activities of daily living (ADL). Assist in providing and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment. Cross-train and float to other lodges as needed. Requires the ability to work with all genders in the Adult and Child and Adolescent populations.Responsibilities for the Nursing Assistant (Non-Certified) / Behavioral Health Assistant:Demonstrate knowledge of the Nursing Care Plan (NCP) and Treatment Plan as it relates to providing nursing care. Participate in quality control monitoring and peer review as assigned.Provide care for patients with mental illnesses, substance abuse, aggressive behavior, or suicidal tendencies. Demonstrate knowledge of the therapeutic communication skills, taking under consideration age-specific competencies, and culturally diverse patients.Identify the need for and perform basic care/activities of daily living for patients.Demonstrate knowledge of Standard Precautions and perform Quality Control Environmental checks. Assist in caring for patients with behavioral/physical problems.Provide basic care for patients requiring Special Precautions, Seclusion, 4-Point Restraints, and supportive Protective Restraints; follow policy on meeting patients' special needs for hygiene, nutrition, toileting, fluids and ADLs. Participate in maintaining a clean and therapeutic environment by being productively occupied at all times and meeting the needs of the patients.Complete all mandatory training. Perform other related duties as necessary. Minimum and Additional Requirements A high school diploma or GED.Additional RequirementsAbility to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb at least two (2) or three (3) flights of stairs. Ability to tolerate noise level and circulate in patient areas for long periods. Able to work beyond scheduled hours as required to meet safe staffing standards/requlatory requirements. Ability to work with patient behaviors. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
