Associate General Counsel or Senior Associate General Counsel (Litigation & Regulatory) – Oahu, in-house legal services focusing on public utility regulatory matters and litigation for Hawaiian Electric and its affiliates. Role may be filled at either level (Associate General Counsel or Senior Associate General Counsel) depending on qualifications. Responsibilities

Provide in-house legal services with emphasis on public utility regulatory matters and litigation for Hawaiian Electric, Maui Electric and Hawaii Electric Light (the Companies); monitor work assigned to outside counsel. Advise officers, managers and employees on proposed legislation, enacted laws, legal trends, cases and policies pertaining to the Companies. Develop and implement policies, procedures and strategies for provision of legal services; advocate the Companies’ positions externally. Represent the Companies before governmental administrative agencies and in court; prepare legal documents, pleadings, memoranda, motions and regulatory filings; participate in rate case proceedings, discovery, witness preparation and briefs. Handle various litigation matters (commercial, contract, personal injury, property damage) from inception through judgment and appeals; manage outside counsel costs and monitor work of Legal Department staff. Provide work direction to and monitor outside attorneys and Legal Assistants; participate in task forces, committees and special projects; communicate effectively with senior management about legal issues and risks. Participate in emergency response activities as assigned and other duties as required. Qualifications

Associate General Counsel (Litigation & Regulatory)

Law degree; membership in the Hawaii State Bar Association and license to practice law in Hawaii (or admission pending with in-state licensing). Thorough knowledge in commercial and business law; general knowledge of the legal areas listed in the job requirements; specialized knowledge in one or more areas. Minimum of 4 years of legal experience required. Experience with public utility regulatory matters and litigation is a plus; experience appearing before courts and governmental agencies is desirable. Knowledge & Skills

Specialized knowledge in public utility regulation and familiarity with Hawaii Administrative Rules Chapter 16-601 or similar rules; specialized knowledge in litigation and related rules. Broad knowledge of energy, commercial and business law; ability to work independently, manage time, meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work product. Strong analytical, organizational and communication skills; ability to present to senior management and to external audiences; customer orientation and ability to manage internal clients. Leadership, mentoring and ability to lead multiple projects in a dynamic environment. Experience

Minimum of 4 years of legal experience required. Experience with public utility commissions, consumer advocates and legislative bodies on public utility regulatory matters is preferred. Location & Role Details

Location: Honolulu – Oahu Role: Manager (as described in posting); Number of Vacancies: 1 Senior Associate General Counsel (Litigation & Regulatory)

Law degree; Hawaii Bar membership and license; minimum 7 years of legal experience with at least 3 years in public utilities regulatory law and/or litigation. Experience with public utility commissions, consumer advocates and legislative bodies on regulatory matters; experience appearing before courts and agencies; ability to manage all aspects of litigation from inception to judgment and appeals. Compensation & Benefits

Hiring Range (Associate General Counsel): $138,600 to $180,200. Hiring Range (Senior Associate General Counsel): $156,300 to $207,300. The selected candidate will be placed based on skills and qualifications; location: Honolulu – Oahu. Additional Information
