A part-time Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) is needed to support K-12 students in an educational setting in Barrington, Rhode Island. This contract role is designed for a dedicated professional to provide specialized services that empower students with visual impairments to navigate their environments with confidence and independence.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
Certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS preferred)
Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments
Ability to design and implement mobility training programs tailored to individual needs
Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and other related service providers
Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive tools used for mobility training
Responsibilities:
Conduct assessments to determine orientation and mobility needs of students
Develop and deliver individualized instruction and training to promote safe and effective travel skills within the school and community settings
Provide consultation and resources to staff and family members to support student success
Document student progress and maintain accurate records according to district and state guidelines
Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of student education plans
