Job Summary Under general supervision, the Lead CT technologist coordinates department workflow to ensure maximum efficiency, assumes primary responsibility in the absence of the supervisor, reviews protocols annually and updates as directed, coordinates/delivers staff education, provides individual instruction to staff on an as-needed basis, serves as a preceptor for new staff, and assumes responsibility (or escalation) for staff competence during orientation/annual review. Performs image quality review, tracks and reports image quality, leads technologist council, serves as lead for equipment and/or IT issues (EMR, PACS).

The Lead CT technologist has advanced skills to perform and participate in Cardiac, Research, and procedural exams. The Lead CT Technologist helps resolve technical errors for technologists and radiologists, oversees department workflow and serves as CT charge. The Lead CT Technologist will be responsible for the protocols, dose reduction, and image quality of the CT Department Scanners. As the lead, the incumbent will be responsible for patient coordination, acquisition, processing, and archiving of all patient data. Assist in maintaining a smooth operational flow and maximum patient volume. Maintains a high degree of accuracy and an awareness of all radiation and patient safety issues involved with any CT exam. Demonstrates a thorough understanding and working knowledge of normal anatomy, abnormal anatomy and physiology, radiation safety, CT supplies and equipment operation. Recognizes and resolves equipment operations, problems and discrepancies. Anticipates patient needs and concerns and determines the appropriate care needed. Uses professional judgment and critical thinking when performing procedures. Performs calmly in stressful situations and interacts with radiologists, clinicians and peers in a cooperative, harmonious manner for maximum effectiveness.

The CT Lead Technologist will comply and adhere to department protocols, UCDH Policies and Procedures, Department of Radiology Policies and Procedures and other applicable work rules and regulations. The technologist must act with initiative and responsibility to achieve maximum radiographic quality. Duties will be performed independently and under general supervision.

Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)

American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR

ARRT (R) from American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

ARRT (CT) from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

IV Certification within 6 months of hire

No Minimum Education required

Extensive CT Technologist experience and ability to operate CT equipment to provide quality images.

Demonstrated lead experience within a health care/medical setting and similar duties.

Knowledge and ability to operate radiology equipment, such as different CT equipment, and auxiliary equipment to provide quality images.

Must be able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as the radiological field advances.

Ability to display common sense and good judgement in following rules, protocols, policies and procedures.

Ability to function and remain calm under multiple direction and/or fluctuations of work volume.

Ability to handle a high patient volume in a high-pressure department with constantly changing priorities.

Comprehensive knowledge of radiology principles and practices including anatomy and physiology, radiation protection and physics, radiographic positioning, surgical and nursing procedures.

Ability to remain flexible with scheduling changes throughout day to accommodate patient care needs.

Ability to use basic nursing skills and CPR.

Skill to communicate clearly and effectively on the telephone, in person and written document.

Skill to organize workload by priority to produce a sufficient volume of work in a timely manner.

Ability to react quickly and knowledgeably in emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications

Contrast Administration experience preferred.

Experience performing similar duties within a level one trauma center desired.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
