Responsibilities

The Critical Power Group maintains, services, and troubleshoots UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure. Our technicians are factory trained on major UPS brands such as MGE/APC, Liebert, Toshiba/Mitsubishi, and Powerware/Eaton. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, testing, emergency service calls at high-profile government, institutional, and commercial sites, and providing engineering support.

  • Travel daily with an independent work structure
  • Available for emergency calls 24/7 unless on PTO or off-call
  • Maintain company-issued equipment, tools, and instruments
  • Install and repair static switch and PDU systems
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance
  • Interface with customers and communicate status to the office and management
  • Protect proprietary information and maintain documentation
  • Use electronic and electrical test equipment as needed
  • Coordinate with subcontractors on-site
  • Maintain vehicle safety and insurance compliance
  • Ensure work meets M.C. Dean standards
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and timely
  • Provide technical support and maintain technical documentation
  • Attend product-specific training as needed
  • Cross-train team members as appropriate

Other duties as required

  • Inspect static switch systems and associated controls, including visual, operational, and failure analysis
  • Certify systems and components adhere to quality standards
  • Review system drawings and specifications for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide technical assistance to owners and engineers
  • Perform inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Advise on maintenance practices and procedures
  • Prepare reports and recommend system improvements
  • Meet physical demands including lifting batteries and working safely
  • Maintain proficiency with testing instruments such as digital multi-meters and insulation testers
  • Be available 24/7 for on-call support, with possible overnight travel

Supervisory Controls

  • Work under general supervision, with assignments based on schedules and priorities
  • Operate independently within policies and procedures
  • Perform inspections and certification of power electronics to ensure reliability and quality

Qualifications

  • At least 5+ years of experience with UPS systems, batteries, test equipment, and electrical apparatus
  • AA/BS in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or equivalent training
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, maintenance, and quality procedures
  • Ability to diagnose malfunctions and employ testing techniques
  • Proficiency with laptops, software, and communication devices
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Future training/certification in manufacturer maintenance courses
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
