Responsibilities
The Critical Power Group maintains, services, and troubleshoots UPS systems, batteries, and other critical infrastructure equipment. Our technicians are factory trained on major UPS manufacturers such as MGE/APC, Liebert, Toshiba/Mitsubishi, and Powerware/Eaton. They perform preventive maintenance, equipment testing, and emergency services at high-profile government, institutional, and commercial facilities. The group also provides engineering and technical support to customers and other divisions.
- Travel daily with an independent work structure
- Be available for emergency calls 24/7 unless on PTO or Off Call
- Maintain company-issued equipment, tools, and instruments
- Install and repair static switch and PDU systems
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance
- Engage with customers directly
- Communicate availability to the office and team leads
- Protect proprietary information and records
- Use electronic and electrical test equipment as needed
- Manage on-site subcontractors as necessary
- Maintain vehicle safety and insurance compliance
- Ensure work meets M.C. Dean standards
- Complete reports and documentation accurately and timely
- Provide technical support upon request
- Maintain technical documentation for review
- Attend product-specific training as required
- Cross-train team members as needed
Other duties as required
- Inspect static switch systems and associated controls, including maintenance checks, failure analysis, and repairs
- Certify system compliance with quality standards
- Review and verify system drawings and specifications for accuracy
- Provide technical assistance and advice to owners and engineers
- Perform inspections and maintenance, and instruct site personnel
- Resolve technical issues and prepare reports with recommendations
- Meet physical demands such as lifting batteries and working at heights
- Maintain operational expertise with testing instruments
- Be available 24/7 for on-call duties, including overnight travel
- Perform other assigned duties
Supervisory Controls
- Work under general supervision, receiving schedules and priorities from managers
- Operate with autonomy within established policies
- Work reviewed for policy adherence and organizational effectiveness
- Primary goal: inspect and certify power electronics to ensure reliability, availability, and quality of power systems
Qualifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience with UPS systems, batteries, test equipment, and electrical apparatuses
- AA/BS degree in Electrical/Electronics or equivalent training
- Ability to read and interpret schematics
- Knowledge of NEC, maintenance, and quality procedures
- Ability to diagnose malfunctions with testing and inspection
- Proficiency with laptops, software, and communication devices
- Strong communication skills
- Willingness to undergo manufacturer training and certification
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
