Responsibilities
- The Custodian II performs moderately complex (journey-level) custodial work, including cleaning, dusting, disinfecting, and sanitizing to maintain a safe environment.
- Operates floor maintenance equipment such as strippers, buffers, vacuums, and extractors.
- Requests and restocks supplies as necessary.
- Assists in inspections of buildings and equipment for cleanliness and needed repairs.
- Assists in minor building and equipment repairs and installations.
- Maintains custodial equipment in good working order and cleans exterior areas around the hospital.
- Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and judgment.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including disaster response/COOP activation with potential shift/location changes.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
- Attends work regularly and may be required to work specific or rotating schedules, including overtime as per agency policy.
- Performs custodial tasks timely and with high quality, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, window and light fixture cleaning, and proper sanitization.
- Cleans and maintains floors, restrooms, nurses’ station, and other areas per procedures and safety measures.
- Maintains interior and exterior of buildings, empties trash, and reports repairs; replenishes supplies as needed.
- Coaches other custodians as needed.
- Inspects areas for cleanliness, completed work, and minor repairs; performs minor maintenance.
- Completes documentation accurately; protects confidential information; maintains inventory and equipment records.
- Supports patient health and provides a safe environment for all.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, standards, and sanitation regulations.
- Knowledge of infection control principles and methods.
- Knowledge of inventory control principles and methods.
- Skills in using custodial equipment, materials, and safe handling of chemicals.
- Skills in use and maintenance of building maintenance tools and equipment.
- Ability to stay on task and complete work timely.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand/walk on hard floors for extended periods.
- Ability to work harmoniously with coworkers and patients.

Initial Screening Criteria
- Six months work experience required.
- Experience in custodial or environmental services work in a nursing home, hospital, residential facility, hotel or other similar setting preferred.
Additional Information
