Division of Facilities Management - Northern Division
The Division of Facilities Management is a customer-driven support organization responsible for providing facilities management services to all CDHS agencies and offices. These services include building and grounds maintenance, custodial, capital construction (budgeting and contract management), utilities management, vehicle fleet management, building space leasing allocation, and facilities planning services. The division is a centralized statewide team divided into three districts and a central office, combining extensive facilities knowledge and a commitment to reliable, responsive service to meet customer expectations 100% of the time. Facilities managed by the Division of Facilities Management (DFM) include 1,400 acres of land and 349 buildings comprising 3.8 million square feet.
Facilities served include: Colorado Mental Health Hospital at Fort Logan (CMHHFL), Department of Human Services (DHS) at 1575 Sherman St., Wheat Ridge Regional Center (WRRC and group homes), and Division of Youth Services (DYS) facilities (Prairie Vista, Gilliam, Lookout Mountain Campus, Marvin W. Foote, Mount View Campus, Platte Valley). The division provides as-needed support to the Veterans Community Living Center in the district. Total facilities are approximately 1.9 million sq. ft. at multiple sites within the Northern Region.
This unit performs housekeeping and custodial services to ensure facilities and client environments are cleaned and maintained according to regulatory standards, providing a safe, sanitary environment for clients and staff. It aims to meet the facilities needs of CDHS Northern Region customers while managing available resources to provide a high-quality physical environment. The unit also maintains a pleasant, safe, and sanitary environment for clients, personnel, and visitors in CDHS buildings.
This position provides custodial services for a wide range of CDHS agencies, including CMHHFL, DHS at 1575 Sherman St., WRRC (including group homes), and DYS facilities (Prairie Vista, Gilliam, Lookout Mountain Campus, Marvin W. Foote, Mount View Campus, Platte Valley).
The position is required to meet and maintain all regulatory requirements set by JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and other regulatory agencies.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Performs daily cleaning, sanitizing, and servicing of assigned work area according to schedules and procedures using disinfectant cleaners, chemicals, and equipment (sweeping, dust mopping, wet mopping, vacuuming, restroom cleaning, etc.).
- Performs daily detail cleaning of assigned area (washing walls, doors, frames, sills, windows, baseboards, fixtures, furnishings, ceilings, vents, light fixtures).
- Performs weekly project work within all areas including hard floor and carpet care.
- Performs project floor work including buffing, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, sealing of hard floors, and spot cleaning, shampooing, and extracting carpeted floors using appropriate cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Collects and disposes of trash and biohazard waste, ensuring proper containment and disposal.
- Assists in moving furniture, appliances, equipment, supplies, etc. for project floor work and involves manual handling or moving equipment as needed.
- Cleans and services equipment, maintains janitorial closet, stock levels, and chemical labeling requirements.
- Snow removal as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This is a full-time, in-person, essential position that may require responding to callbacks after hours for essential or emergency services. Shift work may be required and this position is eligible for shift differential.
Essential Positions. Positions that perform essential law enforcement, highway maintenance, and other support services directly necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of patients, residents, and inmates of state institutions or state facilities. Employees in essential positions can be only FLSA non-exempt and may be required to work unusual hours to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay.
Call back applies when an employee is required to report to work outside scheduled shift hours. If there is no release from work during call back hours, it is considered a continuation of the shift and call back does not apply. When call back applies, a minimum of two (2) hours of regular base pay is guaranteed. Eligible employees are those eligible for overtime, and any call back time is counted as work time.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have at least three months of cleaning experience. Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40 hours per week). Part-time employment is prorated to determine qualifications. Preferred Qualifications and Competencies
- Experience cleaning and maintaining facilities such as schools, colleges, hospitals, long-term care facilities, mental health institutes or correctional institutions.
- Experience sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, and performing general dusting and vacuuming in similar facilities.
- Possession of a valid, non-restricted Colorado Driver’s License.
Conditions of Employment
- A full pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted; this position may involve direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, crimes of moral turpitude, or misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify.
- Must be willing to submit and pass a full background check.
- Travel may be required for training and meetings.
- Must be willing to receive an annual influenza vaccination or provide a medical/religious exemption.
- Must successfully pass a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
- Must be available for call back to perform essential and/or emergency services without delay.
- Must be available for shift work and be prepared to work various hours for coverage, weather-related issues, and essential/emergency services outside normal hours.
- Use, handling, or exposure to hazardous materials: exposure to moving parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock, or working in high exposed places.
Appeal Rights. If you are eliminated from consideration, you may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board or request a review by the State Personnel Director. Information and forms are available on the State Personnel Board website. Appeals must be submitted on the official appeal form within ten (10) calendar days of notice.
