Job Description We're seeking a highly motivated and experienced senior engineer to lead key programs that support safe and efficient transportation systems. In this role, you'll oversee engineering studies, and the development of plans related to pavement markings, while supervising essential programs including pavement marking, vision obstruction, and traffic counts. The Traffic Engineering group at the City of Raleigh is responsible for maintaining the city's traffic signs and pavement markings to ensure safe and efficient travel for all road users. Our team focuses on the upkeep and installation of signs and markings that guide, inform, and protect drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. By prioritizing attention to detail and adherence to safety standards, we help maintain a well-organized and accessible transportation network.
Duties and Responsibilities The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
Supervises staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, and discipline and termination procedures Performs engineering studies and develops pavement marking plans; produces and seals engineering documents as required Ensures compliance with applicable regulatory standards, service quality, operational and organizational policies and procedures Manages programs responsible for installing pavement markings, vision obstruction studies, and performing traffic counts Monitors program inventory and operational budgets; reviews and tracks expenditures to ensure budget compliance Serves as a technical resource and liaison for engineering department and contractors, consultants, developers, community groups, commission, agencies, City departments, private entities and other stakeholders Responds to inquiries, requests and complaints; performs research; provides consultation; and identifies and resolves issues This position will be required to operate a City owned vehicle when performing engineering studies in the field Typical Qualifications Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field and 3 to 5 years' experience in architecture, engineering, construction management or related work

Licenses or Certifications:
Professional Engineer (PE) Registration Valid
North Carolina Class C Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, or

Work Environment and Physical Effort: Sedentary: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor environment, outdoor environment, or in a vehicle. Employees may occasionally work in a street environment (near moving traffic) or construction site.
