Description

The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Assessment and Accountability, Division of Assessment &Accountability Support, Assessment Communication Branch, has an opening for a Database Administrator III inFrankfort.

The Kentucky Department of Education is a service agency of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and part of theEducation and Workforce Development Cabinet. The department provides resources and guidance to Kentucky'spublic schools and districts as they implement the state's P-12 education requirements. The department alsoserves as the state liaison for federal education requirements and funding opportunities.

The department is led by an appointed commissioner of education, who is hired by and answers to the 11-memberKentucky Board of Education. Offices are administered by associate commissioners and divisions within thoseoffices are administered by division directors.

The department employs approximately 425 Frankfort-based workers; 175 employees in support of the KentuckySchool for the Blind (Jefferson County) and Kentucky School for the Deaf (Boyle County); and about 518employees at the 50 Area Technology Centers across the state.

Administering the statewide assessment and accountability system. Providing technical assistance to schools and districts in the areas of finance, management and curriculum. Providing support and information to the Kentucky Board of Education as it promulgates state education regulations. Overseeing the state education technology system. Monitoring school and district compliance with state and federal laws. Providing instructional services to students at Kentucky School for the Blind, Kentucky School for the Deaf and the Area Technology Centers. Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as a lead in monitoring system tools that provide support to District Assessment Coordinators (DACs) and program consultants. Designs, monitors, and verifies automated procedures within the Office of Assessment and Accountability. Serves as a technical lead in the management, administration and maintenance of databases for the statewideassessment and accountability system. Performs analysis, design, implementation, and problem resolution fordatabases issues. Serves as the lead to ensure Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) compliance and functionality tosupport schools and districts through presentations, resources and training materials. Develops tools for and performs sandbox testing of new technologies. Designs and writes basic scripts and processes to improve team efficiency. Provides live technical support for in-person and virtual meetings. Provides technical assistance and training to office staff and users in the design and implementation ofassessment and accountability data systems and assists with optimizing functionality of computer systems,software and webpage management for ongoing initiatives. Develops and analyzes technical documentation (how to guides, office resources, instructional videos, etc.)and specifications based on assessment and accountability data. Preferred skills:

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with an associate's degree OR certification in an Information Technology (IT) related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Six years of professional experience in IT service desk analysis, desktop support, database analysis, application programming, systems analysis, server support, computer operating system management, or related field.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education in computer science, IT, or related field will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Two years of additional experience in IT service desk analysis, desktop support, database analysis, application programming, systems analysis, server support, computer operating system management, or related field will substitute for the required education.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
