Highway & Roads Market Sector Director

Primary Responsibilities

Market Sector Directors (MSD) are part of HDR's matrix management structure that drive our business. The Highway & Roads (H&R) sector is the largest in the company, representing nearly $1B in annual revenue globally. It includes clients owning and operating highways, toll roads, city, town, and local roads, and bridges. HDR provides services such as bridge and highway design, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and tolling.

The primary responsibilities are divided into three areas:

  1. Market leadership and business development (~70%)
  2. Staff development (20%)
  3. Support to Operations (10%)

The Director sets the vision for HDR’s strategy to expand and serve clients in this sector, supporting growth initiatives, staff development, and strategic planning in coordination with various leadership teams.

The role involves engaging with clients, supporting business development, leading strategic initiatives, and representing HDR in industry organizations across regions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 20 years experience in highway or bridge design, planning, or engineering
  • Professional engineering license or equivalent
  • Leadership roles in highway/road industry associations
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
  • At least 12 years of industry experience including leadership
  • Strong communication, client management, business, and strategic skills
  • Commitment to HDR’s employee-owned culture
