Overview Full Time Chief Psychiatrist in Custody Health for a large public health and hospital system in Silicon Valley. County of Santa Clara Health System (CSCHS), affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine, seeks a full-time Chief Psychiatrist in Custody Health to join the Custody Psychiatry team.

CSCHS is a large public teaching healthcare system serving Santa Clara County and offering opportunities to educate the next generation of health care providers in a high-quality, diverse community.

About the organization County of Santa Clara Health System (CSCHS) is the second-largest County-owned health and hospital system in California, serving approximately 1.9 million people. SCVH comprises four hospitals: Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) – 731 beds, O’Connor Hospital – 358 beds, Saint Louise Regional Hospital – 93 beds, and Regional Medical Center – 258 beds. It includes a network of primary care clinics, urgent care clinics, dental services, primary care behavioral health services, rehabilitation services, and other specialty services. SCVMC hosts four residency programs and one fellowship, and partners with Stanford University SOM and Stanford Healthcare for clinical training. SCVMC is an ACS-verified Level 1 Trauma Center, a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center, an ABA-verified Burn Center, a Primary Stroke Center, a Level 4 NICU, and a CARF-accredited Rehabilitation Center. The system uses Epic EHR and has been recognized by HIMSS (Stage 7).

About Custody Health Custody Health provides integrated care including internal/family medicine, mental health, dental care, OB/GYN, rehabilitation medicine, optometry, and more. The mental health division includes 13 providers, 59 clinicians (LMFT, MFT, LCSW, CSW), and 8 psychologists providing therapy, risk evaluations, neuropsychological and psychological testing. The division emphasizes quality improvement and initiatives to improve care and staff wellbeing. A Consultation and Liaison psychiatry service provides inpatient psychiatric consults to internal medicine, surgery, OB/GYN, pediatrics, trauma, rehab, and the ED. The custody and acute psychiatry teams collaborate with emergency, inpatient, and outpatient psychiatry services.

About the Position This position requires board certification in psychiatry or board eligibility with a clear plan to become certified. The preferred candidate will have at least 3 years of progressive medical leadership experience in custody psychiatry and/or acute inpatient psychiatry. The role includes leadership differential compensation and dedicated administrative time.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership for custody psychiatry services, including inpatient and acute care settings.

Collaborate with emergency, inpatient, and outpatient psychiatry teams and other specialties.

Engage in quality improvement initiatives aimed at delivering effective care and improving staff wellbeing.

Support education and training activities in partnership with medical students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications

Board-certified in psychiatry or board-eligible with a clear plan to obtain certification.

At least 3 years of progressive medical leadership experience in custody psychiatry and/or acute inpatient psychiatry.

Compensation and Benefits Competitive compensation plus a comprehensive benefits package, including 54 days of leave per year, 5 CME days, medical/dental/vision coverage, long-term disability, AD&D, life insurance, retirement plans, paid malpractice with tail coverage, and potential relocation reimbursement (pre-approval required).
