About The Position Job Title: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery Profession: Nursing Specialty: Labor & Delivery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Advanced Fetal Monitoring Must-Have: Cerner experience Description: All required training modules must be completed prior to arrival. Client Clinical Team will pre-screen all candidates. No first-time travelers accepted. Unit averages approximately 300 deliveries per month. There are 2 OB ED beds, 4 antepartum rooms, 9 labor rooms, and 2 operating rooms. Ratios will follow state and AWHONN guidelines. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner, including fetal link and hugs security system. Charge nurse may not take patients but has a resource nurse available. There are OB techs available to assist with C-sections. Weekend requirements include duty every other weekend, with potential additional shifts based on rotations. Holiday coverage includes 2 out of 3 major holidays. No call duty is required. Scrub color is provided. There is no telemetry on the unit. The facility provides ventilation support for mothers and babies but transfers to higher-level care if needed. Laborist and anesthesia services are available on-site 24/7. Strong IV skills are essential. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7. Floating to postpartum is expected; NICU float may also be required. Floor-specific orientation consists of 2 shifts. Common diagnoses include high-risk obstetrics with multiple co-morbidities and multiple births. It is important to understand documentation and care for perinatal initiatives. The facility emphasizes skin-to-skin contact within the first hour after delivery. A NICU nurse will attend all high-risk deliveries with a respiratory therapist present. The unit has a large volume of surrogates and multiples. Cancellation policy allows for up to 4 shift cancellations per 13-week assignment. Charting will be completed using the Cerner system.
