Job Description and Duties Under direction of the Area Senior Construction Engineer (a Senior Transportation Engineer), the incumbent will perform a wide variety of difficult and complex transportation engineering work. Serves as the licensed professional resident engineer on construction projects. Will assign work, give instructions, make decisions on difficult engineering and administrative problems in connection with directing work on various transportation projects. Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.

Special Requirements
Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State owned or leased vehicle.
Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For all other ranges, a PE license is not required.

A maximum two page (2) SOQ that demonstrates how an applicant’s education, training, experience, and skills meet the criteria below and qualify them for the position. Use the bullet points below and directly address each topic.
Knowledge of:
Contract administration paperwork and documentation.
Caltrans Construction Manual, Standard Specifications and Special Provisions.
Highway and bridge construction, design engineering and cost estimating.
Ability to:
Administer construction contracts. Has knowledge of Caltrans Plans and Specifications, and ability to interpret and enforce contract documents, and monitor expenses.
Serve as a lead worker, coordinate/assign work and provide direction to staff.
Communicate with Contractors to provide direction and resolve conflicts.
Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships and be an effective team member.
Obtain or Possess a CA Professional Engineer License (If not currently licensed, state if examinations have been started, or expected date to begin examinations).
