Under the direction of the Area Construction Senior Transportation Engineer and/or the Resident Engineer, incumbent performs various transportation construction and engineering work in the office and field settings. As incumbent progresses in experience, assignments will increase from average to high difficulty. Positions located at 2053 Preisker Lane, Suite E., Santa Maria and 35 S. La Patera Ln. Suite E., Goleta, Santa Barbara County. Job will have exposure to night work, field work, earthwork, paving operations, lab work, fog, weather conditions, chemicals, lab conditions, equipment, machinery, heat, cold, dust, gas, fumes, outdoor conditions, indoor conditions, humidity, and high decibels of noise. Safety equipment must be worn at all times in the field. Workload may include night work, flexible hours, frequent changes of shift, and geographic transfer. Travel may be required. Vacations may be restricted during peak times. Overtime may be required. The Caltrans Transportation Engineer (Civil) Rotation Program is a mandatory 24- to 33-month rotation for all permanent, full-time Transportation Engineer (Civil) employees with probation completed. Rotations provide opportunities to develop project delivery knowledge, skills, and abilities by rotating through diverse units. Rotations are typically 6 to 12 months and may be located throughout the state. On occasion, incumbents may be on loan to other project delivery functions to support staffing needs.
