Summary
The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” Additionally, AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g. cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates and provide leadership. The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager Position is a progression from the AIT position and therefore includes additional high level duties that are specific to that position, though the majority of job duties and responsibilities are shared.

Sales Generation and Guest Service
Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude, and consistently provide legendary service
Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise
Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs
Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobing experience
Demonstrate product knowledge and share that knowledge with Team
Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies on payment and exchanges, and security practices
Remain consistent on personal sales and support teammates’ presentations with the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG)
Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sales and total net sales goals set by Store Management
Provide legendary service in Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms and register area
Know exchange and return procedures and turn them into showmanship opportunities
Use the SPG daily to accomplish goals
Meet or exceed Buckle business builders and guest loyalty standards
Investigate and navigate inventory tools to expand Guest selection
Maintain and build Guest relationships to develop a client-based business
Lead by example with showmanship and high customer service standards
Communicate Guest Levels with the Team
Ask business-driven, showmanship questions to Manager, Team Leaders and Teammates
Be coachable; welcome feedback to improve sales presentations
Lead with high standards whether the Manager is present
Plan sales goals with Store Manager
Own the store’s sales performance metrics
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
Recognize recruiting opportunities using Jobs & Careers cards, referrals and Teammate Recommend
Coach and build relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred
Develop and mentor new Teammates to meet Buckle standards on daily basis
Maintain a positive floor culture
Demonstrate professional dress and lead by example
Participate in daily setup, training, and performance tracking
Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks
Coach denim showmanship and fit cards through Teammates and Guests
Create results and support leadership actions within the department
Assist in recruitment of store staffing needs
Explain pay and Buckle Benefits
Maintain contact lists and attract top talent
Lead Leadership training and SPG teaching
Respectively train non-sales positions as needed
Adapt to changing sales focuses
Visual Merchandise Management
Own and influence product through zone ownership and assign zones with learning goals
Demonstrate new tools and videos related to zone ownership
Delegate and review all four zones with Store Manager
Ensure Visual Standards and weekly checklists are followed with urgency and accountability
Identify merchandising opportunities from freight to floor and product life cycle
Provide store tours and keep floor visually appealing
Maintain appropriate display of new freight and overall visual standards
Use Performance Tracker to improve store performance
Anticipate product changes and adjust visuals accordingly
Maintain visual standards on floor and backroom
Operations
Work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holiday/shopping periods
Use planner and complete Opening/Closing Checklists
Monitor security risks and prevent theft; follow LP guidelines
Handle POS procedures and corporate communications professionally
Maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations
Understand policies on payments, returns, exchanges and LP practices
Navigate and use home page tools; support non-sales positions
Complete scheduled shifts and cover as needed
Maintain a clean, organized, shoppable store
Provide feedback on merchandise handling concerns
Communicate policy violations or concerns to leadership confidentially and promptly
Follow Buckle Code of Ethics and all policies
Complete New Hire paperwork per HR guidelines
Engage in planning (week/month/year) and assist with opening/closing
Complete markdowns, pulls, freight, recalls, RTVs
Coordinate with Corporate Office for store operations
Maintain inventory of supplies and respond to emergencies in Manager’s absence
Supervisory and Leadership
Give and receive feedback constructively
Support Leadership and promote store growth
Demonstrate professional relationships with Teammates
Conduct daily interviews to support team development
Problem solve and adapt to changing needs
Educate self on company tools and share with others
Adhere to Buckle Commitment to Success
Travel to cover other stores as needed
Manage schedule changes professionally
Fulfill mission with high customer service and positive team spirit
Handle special projects as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities Assists the Store Manager in supervising.
Education And/or Experience High school diploma or GED; or 1-3 months related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
