Summary The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management, work with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales and recruit Teammates, provide leadership, training, and motivation, and may act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional high-level duties specific to that role, with the majority of duties shared. Sales Generation and Guest Service Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service to each Guest Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on Guest needs Anticipate and fulfill Guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education to Teammates; share knowledge and education Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices Contribute to personal sales goals and assist Teammates with sales presentations Provide legendary service in Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area Be knowledgeable of exchange and return procedures and leverage opportunities for showmanship Use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to accomplish goals Meet or exceed Buckle business builders and guest loyalty standards Develop Guest relationships to build a client-based business Lead by example with showmanship and customer service Recognize Guest levels and communicate with the Team Ask business-driven questions to Manager, Team Leaders and Teammates Be coachable and welcome feedback to improve sales presentations Perform leadership actions consistently, with or without the Manager present Plan sales goals with Store Manager Own the store’s sales performance and demonstrate product enthusiasm Demonstrate passion for product education and showmanship Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development Identify recruiting opportunities via Jobs & Careers cards, referrals and Teammate recommendations Coach and develop relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred Develop skills and lead, motivate, and educate new Teammates to meet Buckle’s standards Maintain a positive attitude and floor culture Demonstrate appropriate dress and appearance to coach others Participate in daily setup, training, and performance tracking Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks Demonstrate denim showmanship and fit card expertise with Teammates and Guests Coordinate department calendars and track actions Demonstrate leadership actions and involve Guests with product Update fellow leaders and Team continuously Remember Guest names and build merchandise knowledge for both Gals and Guys Collaborate with Store Manager on education focus and delegation Assist Store Manager in recruitment and staffing Explain pay and Buckle Benefits Maintain up-to-date contact lists and attract top talent Execute Leadership Playbook training and hold Teammates accountable Address training needs and adjust as sales focuses shift Visual Merchandise Management Own and influence product through zone ownership and set learning goals for Teammates Execute new tools and videos related to zone ownership and be proactive in zone-related questions Partner with Store Manager to delegate and review all zones Ensure Teammates follow Visual Standards and checklists with urgency Recognize merchandising opportunities and communicate recommendations to Store Manager Provide store tours and keep floor sizing and new freight displayed Show ability to drive changes to improve visual results via Performance Tracker Anticipate product changes and act to improve visual results Maintain visual standards on the floor and in the backroom Operations Work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holiday shifts as needed Understand and use planning tools and complete Opening and Closing Checklists Monitor security risks and prevent or handle thefts; follow Loss Prevention guidelines Execute POS procedures and handle calls from Corporate Office Maintain a positive attitude in challenging situations Understand and apply policies regarding payments, returns, exchanges and Loss Prevention practices Navigate available tools on the home page and provide guidance to non-sales positions Complete scheduled shifts and cover shifts as needed Maintain a clean, organized, and shoppable store Provide feedback on merchandise handling concerns Report policy violations and concerns promptly and confidentially Follow Buckle Code of Ethics and be familiar with policies and handbooks Other duties as assigned; ensure New Hire paperwork is completed per guidelines Plan (week/month/year), open/close checklist execution, markdowns, pulls, freight, RTVs Coordinate with Corporate departments to support store operations Maintain inventory of supplies and respond to emergencies with Store Manager absent Supervisory and Leadership Provide and receive feedback professionally Support Leadership and promote personal and store growth Maintain professional relationships with Teammates Conduct daily interviews as needed for Team Development Overcome objections and problem-solve Self-educate on company tools and share knowledge Comply with Buckle Commitment to Success Travel to cover other stores within the District as needed Handle schedule changes professionally Fulfill Buckle mission with high customer service and positive team spirit Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned Education and/or Experience High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related retail experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
