Job Summary
The Department of Access, Compliance, and Equal Opportunity (ACE) is committed to building an academic community whose members represent and embrace diverse cultures, background and life experiences that reflect the multicultural nature of South Florida and our global society. The division is looking for FIU ACE Student Ambassadors who will advance the department's mission to uphold federal and state mandates for equal opportunity, and cultivating a University climate where all can learn, earn and thrive. ACE Student Ambassadors must have FWS eligibility and be on campus frequently or are campus residents. Students selected for this program must be willing to have a flexible work schedule (10-20 hours a week, depending on their class schedules and FWS allowance), in accordance with the week's campus events.
A successful ACE Student Ambassador candidate will have the following skills and qualifications needed to complete their daily tasks:
Responsibilities
Promote and support the vision and mission of ACE, and communicate it to the campus community.
Facilitate conversations around access, compliance and equal opportunity.
Answer questions about the Department goals, educational trainings and support mechanisms; attend campus events.
Assist with ACE initiatives, outreach, programs, and educational facilitations; provide feedback about programs, initiatives and workshops sponsored by the office.
Assist with ACE initiatives, outreach, programs, and educational facilitations.
Actively engage with diverse student populations while serving as an advocate for said populations.
Conduct campus tours for interested community and external entities.
Attend campus events and student-related meetings (e.g., SGA, BSU, PSU).
Work with Department leadership in researching and developing supplemental educational content/training for students, faculty, and staff.
Participate in production and recording of video content for web and social, including appearing onscreen.
Research and report best practices and efficacy; provide additional support to the team as needed.
Qualifications – Desired
Can actively engage, listen, and have an open mind when confronted with new and/or challenging information.
Committed to learning about equal opportunity and helping increase student awareness.
Strong written and communication skills.
Excellent problem-solver.
Active on social media.
Able to use Microsoft Suite, Canva, Outlook, etc.
Must not have a disciplinary record or charges within the University judicial system.
Must be comfortable with presenting before large crowds.
Strong facilitation skills coupled with the ability to explain complex ideas.
Who May Apply
Students enrolled at FIU, who have been awarded Federal Work Study (FWS) as part of their Financial Aid Award package.
Student must be enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credit hours in a course of study leading to a degree or a Financial Aid eligible certificate, during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.
Upon credits decreasing, award being canceled, or graduating, FWS employment must end.
Work Schedule Hours will vary based on class schedule and needs of the department.
Advertised Salary $13.00/Hour
Pre-Employment Requirements Criminal Background Check. This student appointment may be subjected to a pre-employment background check.
Student Background Checks Background check and fingerprinting is required if the job includes any of the following: Working directly with and/or residing with minors and/or vulnerable persons; Working in K-12 schools (may require DCF Clearinghouse clearance at a cost); Handling/managing cash, checks, cash transactions, gift cards, debit/credit cards, and/or cash equivalent; Information technology (IT) related functions; Driving on behalf of the university (MVR Check only); Those working in the Athletics Department who travel with students to events; Working in museums; Those working in the Office of Financial Aid, One Stop, or Office of the Registrar (Title IV access); Special trust, responsibility, and sensitive location; Working in centers of health and/or counseling care.
