Position Overview
The Business Development Manager (BDM) – Military develops existing business, as well as identifies and secures new business opportunities using our existing and future product portfolio within the military/defense sector. This role will be key in winning new projects by developing and applying market, customer and application specific strategies and solutions. Responsibilities
Takes ownership of the entire existing and future business for the US military market, which includes the assessment of growth potential, development of win strategies and opportunity prioritization necessary for strategic growth Identifies strategic market segments for the organization, market segment participants, trends, disruptors, contracts and awards Monitors the market (trends, competition, technologies, standards, organizations, research etc.); identifies opportunities to expand our existing product line in order to expand our global market share Defines new products and related technologies and summarizes the information in global product roadmaps, leveraging Marketing and Sales to develop opportunities Assists Sales in closing sales of new products, new to customer and new to market, actively engaging all shareholders to drive new business and ensuring alignment between sales forecasts, operational plans, and financial targets Responsible for growing and retaining existing major accounts by presenting new solutions and services to client, including the development and execution of customer roadmaps for current and future program and product opportunities Works closely with internal teams such as Sales, Product Management, Marketing, Application Center and Product Development Center, as well as Global BDM teams for alignment and in support of business growth Provides proactive, timely and actionable notes after business trips and significant customer meetings with a high level of detail Cultivates and maintains strong, strategic relationships with key decision-makers, influencers, and potential clients within the military and aerospace sectors, communicating applicable learnings to internal ODU employees Develops and supports sales and marketing strategies, creating target customer contact plans, as well as preparing margin and business case analysis to presents proposals to executive management as needed Other projects and duties as assigned Experience / Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience, required 5+ years of experience in Sales and/or Business Development required Knowledge of military customers and market segments required, connector experience a plus Familiarity with proposal development, bid processes, and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems required Excellent written and verbal communication skills for crafting compelling proposals and presentations Comfortable working with Microsoft Office Suite and navigating technology platforms Ability to travel up to 50% Strong consultative selling, negotiation, and presentation skills are essential for closing deals and building customer loyalty Ability to analyze market opportunities, develop long-term strategies, and manage multiple priorities is crucial Proactive, results-oriented, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment Strong sense of ownership and accountability for Military segment Position Location:
