Senior Tax Manager / Controller

for a premier real estate organization based in the Western New York area. This high-impact role is ideal for an experienced tax professional who is ready to expand into broader financial leadership and ultimately grow into a

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

position. The primary focus of this position is the management and execution of all tax filings for a diverse real estate portfolio and associated family office entities. The role also includes oversight of accounting operations, financial reporting, treasury management, and process optimization. Key Responsibilities: 1. Tax Management (Primary Focus): Lead and execute all tax filings for the firm’s property portfolio and family office. Manage the full annual tax cycle, with peak periods in March/April and August–October. Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Liaise with external tax advisors and internal stakeholders as needed. 2. Controller Functions: Oversee financial reporting and internal accounting processes. Review and ensure accuracy of financial statements. Manage treasury operations, including cash flow monitoring and investment oversight. Contribute to process improvement initiatives in collaboration with senior leadership. 3. Strategic & Financial Growth (CFO Track): While not an immediate requirement, the role may evolve to include financial modeling and deal analysis. Opportunity to grow into a CFO role as responsibilities expand over time. Candidate Profile: Tax Expertise: Required: CPA with 6–12 years of relevant experience, ideally from a public accounting firm. Strong command of tax regulations related to real estate holdings and family office structures. Experience or readiness to oversee core accounting and treasury functions. Candidates without full Controller experience will be supported and trained as needed. Leadership & Growth Potential: Ambitious and motivated to broaden beyond tax into full-spectrum financial leadership. Strong communication skills and a strategic mindset. Additional Information: This is not a traditional “plug-and-play” Controller role.
