Colorado Department of Corrections . Location: CANON CITY, CO. This posting will be used to fill future vacancies at this location. This is a full-time position providing routine and emergency dental care, assessment, diagnosis and treatment to offenders incarcerated in the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC). Responsibilities

Provide professional diagnosis and treatment of oral pathology for offenders in both routine and emergency settings; Provide dental care that includes, but is not limited to, diagnostic, preventive, restorative, periodontal, endodontic, oral surgery, and prosthetic services; Apply agency and professional treatment standards to develop individual patient treatment plans; Diagnose and treat dental disease of offenders or refer offenders to specialists for treatment; Participate in restraining an offender primarily for medical reasons as required; Communicate with outside providers and internal peers to ensure continuity of care; Collaborate with other health care professionals and clinical services staff regarding offender health issues, transfers, classifications and medical/legal concerns; Participate in various decision-making committees to resolve system issues and assist in developing policies, protocols, standards or guidelines; Maintain offenders health records to include dental holds, special diets and work restrictions; Respond to offender grievances and participate in daily dental clinic operations (tool control, infection control, hazardous materials and radiation control); Plan workloads and schedules for self and subordinates; provide supervision of clinical tasks as required under the Dental Practice Law; Provide daily guidance to dental care staff for appointment scheduling to maximize efficiency; Provide patient education on preventative care, self-care, and signs of dental/periodontal disease and need for immediate dental care. Minimum Qualifications Licensure: Applicant must possess a current, valid Dentist license issued by the Colorado Dental Board. Preferred Qualifications Experience providing dental services to indigent, under-served, community-based and institutional populations; Experience providing dental services as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Required Competencies Self-control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations; Ability to remain alert, emotionally stable, and mentally resilient under pressure; Tolerance to stress, confinement, and high-stakes interactions; Ability to provide dental care to offenders in a correctional facility; Advanced knowledge and understanding of Dental standards and guidelines; Commitment to team-oriented patient care and excellent communication skills; Ability to read, comprehend and communicate in English (written and verbal); Ability to produce accessible documents following plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind; Interpersonal skills to collaborate across programs, facilities and with external stakeholders.
