Vacancy locations listed are at the main campus of each healthcare network. Additional vacancies are available at surrounding community based outpatient clinics (CBOC).

Duties

Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work-up and clinic intervention, including comprehensive patient assessment, health history, physical examination, and patient education to Veterans in the Primary Care team setting.

Works collaboratively with other health care professionals to accomplish patient, service, and medical center goals, promoting and embracing the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model of care, utilizing Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, Excellence (ICARE) values throughout the clinic.

Distinguish between normal and abnormal findings to establish a diagnosis and initiate appropriate response to emergency health problems.

Order and evaluate diagnostic tests as appropriate, recommend treatment and/or referral.

Initiate appropriate referrals and consultations to other clinical services.

Initiate, evaluate, and change orders for medications.

Follow Performance Measure guidelines, including completion of clinical reminders; access and timeliness standards; prescription order entry, National VA formulary Requirements, and customer service standards.

Demonstrates flexibility in responding to clinic demands, adhere to personal and professional obligations and responsibilities.

Practice and maintain ethical standards, and sustain a work environment that is harmonious and customer service oriented.

Assists with arranging continuity of care across the VHA system as needed.

Works to provide leadership on site to ensure care is completed in required timeframes.

Participates in Quality Improvement activities.

Participates and attends medical center committees as assigned.

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): This position is eligible for the EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, and possible 5 day CME absence)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (full-time with board certification)

Requirements Conditions of employment

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.

Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

Selected applicants will be required to complete an online onboarding process. Acceptable form(s) of identification will be required to complete pre-employment requirements. Effective May 7, 2025, REAL ID-compliant identification is required.

Must pass pre-employment physical examination.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all VA Health Care Personnel.

You may be required to serve a probationary period.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

United States Citizenship

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree; from an approved school.

Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine.

Residency Training in an accredited core specialty training program; board certification may be required for faculty status.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board Certification desired but not required.

Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards. A pre-placement physical examination is required. This is a designated drug testing position. Random drug testing will apply. Requires lifting, fine motor tasks, mobility and sensory requirements as described in the job announcement.
