Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).

Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

This position is in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Fayetteville VA Coastal Health care System (FVACHCS), and the Primary Care Service Line (PCSL). The successful candidate will serve as a Primary Care Physician and lead a multi-disciplinary health care team to provide high-quality care to Veterans enrolled with the team. The physician will ensure quality and timeliness of services, customer satisfaction, and compliance with accrediting bodies such as the Joint Commission and the Inspector General’s Combined Assessment Program. Collaboration with other services is required.

Responsibilities

Provide Primary Care for a panel of patients (male and female).

Perform comprehensive assessments, diagnostic work-up, and clinic interventions, including health history, physical examination, and patient education for Veterans in the Primary Care team setting; outpatient care includes both scheduled and unscheduled Veterans.

Establish diagnoses and initiate appropriate responses to emergency health problems.

Initiate referrals and consultations to other clinical services.

Order and evaluate diagnostic tests as appropriate; recommend treatment and/or referral.

Validate the effectiveness of previously implemented medical treatments.

Include patient and family in planning care and establishing measurable goals for health maintenance/improvement.

Document health appraisal information, clinical assessments, treatment decisions, plan of care, ongoing management and outcomes in CPRS on the day of the encounter.

Follow Performance Measure guidelines, including clinical reminders in CPRS; access and timeliness standards; prescription order entry; National VA formulary requirements; and customer service standards.

Act as a surrogate for the patient when colleagues are on leave or travel.

The incumbent reports to the Chief, Primary Care, and works with the Chief, PCSL. The PCSL Physician exercises latitude within VA guidelines to plan, design, implement and accomplish program responsibilities. Work is reviewed for policy compliance and achievement of program goals.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 Federal holidays, and up to 5 days for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Requirements Conditions of Employment

U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens per VA policy.

Urinalysis for illegal drug screening prior to appointment; refusal to be tested will result in denial of employment.

Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Subject to background/security investigation.

Pre-employment physical examination; influenza vaccination program participation.

Possible probationary period.

Qualifications To qualify, you must meet basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred but not hired until requirements are met. Current VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment previously are deemed to meet the basic requirements.

United States Citizenship:

Non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy.

MD or equivalent degree from an approved school (LCME or AOA approved); or foreign medical graduates with ECFMG verification as applicable.

Current, full, and unrestricted medical or surgical license in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.

Residency training approved by VA or equivalent board eligibility; board certification may be required for faculty status in academic settings.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Education Degree of Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from an LCME- or AOA-accredited school. Foreign medical graduates must have ECFMG verification as applicable.

Note:
