Physician - Primary Care at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The VHA leads the Primary Care initiative in employing the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model to optimize care across disciplines, with flexible care options and smaller panel sizes to support patient engagement. Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work-up and clinic interventions, including health history, physical examination, and patient education for Veterans in the Primary Care team setting. Collaborate with other health care professionals to achieve patient, service, and medical center goals within the PACT model, upholding ICARE values (Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, Excellence). Distinguish between normal and abnormal findings to establish diagnoses and respond to emergencies appropriately. Order and evaluate diagnostic tests as appropriate; recommend treatment and/or referrals. Initiate referrals and consultations to other clinical services; manage medication orders and changes as needed. Follow Performance Measure guidelines, including clinical reminders, access and timeliness standards, prescription entry, and customer service standards. Demonstrate flexibility to meet clinic demands and maintain professional responsibilities; promote a harmonious, customer service oriented work environment. Assist with continuity of care across the VHA system; provide on-site leadership to ensure timely care. Participate in Quality Improvement activities and attend medical center committees as assigned. U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed only when necessary per VA policy. Urinalysis for illegal drug use prior to appointment for testing designated positions; refusal may result in denial of employment. Selective Service Registration for males born after 12/31/1959. Proficiency in written and spoken English. Subject to background/security investigation. Completion of online onboarding and provision of acceptable identification documents; REAL ID compliance may apply after May 7, 2025. Must pass pre-employment physical examination and participate in the influenza vaccination program. Probationary period may be required. Doctor of medicine or equivalent from an approved school (LCME or AOA approved). Foreign medical graduates must have ECFMG certification if claimed; otherwise validation of eligibility is required. L icense:
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia. Residency:
Completed residency in an approved core specialty; board certification may be required for faculty status depending on program. Alternative eligible residencies with appropriate experience may be considered. English Proficiency:
