Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply. Duties

The Physician will evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to ambulatory adults in an outpatient setting at Saint Louis VA Health Care System. Duties for Primary Care faculty include providing direct patient care in an outpatient setting. There are opportunities to engage in population health management and quality improvement projects. Prior training or clinical experience in an academic teaching environment is preferred. Primary Care of a panel of primary care patients (male and female). Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnostic work-up and clinic intervention, including health history, physical examination, and patient education to Veterans in the Primary Care team setting; outpatients include both scheduled and unscheduled Veterans. Coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver patient care and services. Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings to establish a diagnosis and respond to emergencies as appropriate. Initiate referrals and consultations to other clinical services. Order and evaluate diagnostic tests, recommend treatments and/or referrals. Validate the effectiveness of previously implemented medical treatment. Manage medications including initiating, evaluating, and changing orders as needed. Involve patients and families in planning care and establishing measurable health goals. Document health appraisal information, clinical assessments, treatment decisions, plan of care, and outcomes using CPRS on the day of the encounter. Respond to alerts and patient/family inquiries promptly (weekends excepted). Adhere to Performance Measure guidelines and applicable access, timing, formulary, and customer service standards. Work effectively with patients, families, the multi-disciplinary team, and other staff; support colleagues during leave/travel as needed. Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm. Requirements

As a condition of employment, you will serve a 2-year probationary period during which your performance and conduct will be evaluated against agency needs and goals. On completion, continuation of employment requires certification that it advances the public interest. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy). Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved medical or osteopathic school. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state/territory or D.C. Residency training approved by VA leading to eligibility for board certification (ACGME or AOA). Other non-US residencies with five years of verified practice may be considered if deemed appropriate by local Medical Staff Executive Committee. Proficiency in English. For some positions, additional residency requirements or board certification may apply for faculty status. Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an LCME- or AOA-accredited school. For foreign medical graduates, ECFMG verification may be required. Physical Requirements
