Overview
Position: Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Leader The Safety & Environmental Leader partners closely with the Plant Manager to drive a proactive safety culture and ensure full compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations. This role leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Safety & Environmental (S&E) programs at the site level. Responsibilities include regulatory compliance, incident prevention, risk assessment, sustainability initiatives, and employee engagement, while fostering accountability across all departments. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field. 3+ years of progressive EHS experience, including multi-site or regional responsibility. Experience with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and state/local regulations. Proven track record in building a proactive safety culture and implementing sustainable EHS programs. CSP, CHMM, or CIH certification. EHS management systems experience (ISO 14001/45001). Key Responsibilities
Promote a strong safety culture through training, engagement campaigns, and consistent application of safety principles. Coordinate managers and supervisors in the Behavior Observation System (Safety, GMPs, and Confidentiality). Conduct regular floor presence to monitor safe work practices and reinforce compliance. Develop and maintain site health and safety plans, policies, and procedures in line with OSHA and company standards. Lead monthly safety committee meetings, including scheduling, agendas, facilitation, and documentation. Oversee investigations of all incidents/accidents, ensuring root cause analysis and timely corrective actions. Serve as subject matter expert for safety policies during investigations and disciplinary processes. Manage workers’ compensation claims, acting as primary contact for case management and return-to-work coordination. Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections to ensure compliance and mitigate hazards. Training & Compliance
Conduct new hire safety orientations and OSHA-mandated annual training; maintain accurate training records. Lead emergency preparedness activities, including severe weather and fire drills. Ensure Job Safety Analyses are documented, reviewed, and updated as needed. Manage vendor and visitor safety protocols, ensuring adherence to confidentiality and site standards. Sustainability & Environmental Compliance
Implement sustainability initiatives to reduce waste, improve energy efficiency, and lower carbon footprint. Coordinate recycling and waste management programs. Track and report environmental performance metrics. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations (EPA, local environmental agencies). Program & Data Management
Maintain the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) program for accessibility and accuracy. Track key safety metrics, including incident rates, lost time, and near-miss reports. Monitor and replace biohazard and sharps containers as needed. Oversee first responder readiness, including maintaining stocked first aid kits. Develop and manage safety incentive programs; measure and recommend improvements. Seniority level
