EDGE Indirect Excise Tax Manager – Open Location
Location: Anywhere in the United States At EY, we’re all in to shape your future with confidence. This role supports excise tax compliance and advisory projects for clients in industries including Oil & Gas, Transportation, Manufacturing and Retail. The compliance role covers US Federal and State excise tax filings, including fuel tax filings. The advisory support includes due diligence reviews, structuring assistance, licensing research and consultation, controversy support, interpretation of new legislation, and related correspondence reviewed by junior staff. Examples include air transportation excise tax, alcohol and tobacco excise tax, the PCORI fee, Superfund excise tax, and firearms/ammunition excise tax. This position also coaches and develops team members. Your Key Responsibilities
Lead compliance support to the engagement team; supervise and evaluate assigned seniors and analysts; communicate with clients; provide tax technical recommendations; resolve engagement issues. Participate in day-to-day client engagements and drive delivery of services to meet deadlines. Collaborate in a highly collaborative culture, sharing information with colleagues to deliver high-quality work. Responsibilities Include
Demonstrate understanding of excise tax concepts and apply tax knowledge to client situations. Develop and deliver quality tax planning approaches with timely services and work products. Identify and engage clients in opportunities for excise tax compliance, planning and other services. Prepare practical approaches to client tax situations and arrive at appropriate conclusions. Develop recommendations and implementation plans; make informed decisions in complex areas. Stay updated on trends, developments and legislation impacting clients. Research advanced and complex tax issues and develop effective solutions. Administrative Function
Lead and coach team members in managing engagement lifecycle and engagement economics; responsible for financial and economic health of engagements. Skills And Attributes For Success
Ability to lead client discussions, monitor commitments and deadlines, and drive internal teams to completion. Collaborate with clients and colleagues to analyze tax issues and propose solutions. Support compliance teams with data analysis and benchmarking for compliance and tax calculation purposes; provide recommendations. Apply independent and objective decision making; know when to ask questions or proceed. Receive direction from senior team members; understand federal and state statutes and related regulations and articulate conclusions to team and clients. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree (Accounting, Business, Finance or equivalent preferred). Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a professional services or tax services organization. Excellent organizational and verbal/written communications skills; effective time management. Ability to work in a fast-paced professional services environment; strong research skills (Westlaw, CCH, RIA, etc.). Strong analytical skills and knowledge of excise tax concepts; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Willingness to travel as needed and to work in a balanced hybrid environment.
