Staff Engineer – Finance Data Specialist
to support the build out of a
Finance Data Warehouse/Lake
by partnering with Finance and Technology teams to redesign how they use technology to manage GEICO's business. This role requires strong functional and technical Finance Systems experience to drive discussions with the Business to capture, transform, and utilize Finance data to meet goals. The
Staff Engineer, Finance Data Specialist
will report to the Senior Manager of Finance Data & Analytics and will provide solutions to build out, maintain, and support a Finance Data repository to support FP&A processing and analytics, while supporting the broader Finance organization’s need for Finance data. The role collaborates with Finance and Technology leaders to build the Finance Data Warehouse/Lake as a central, reconciled source of truth for Financial transactions and for Revenue and Expense analytics. It also supports the delivery of technology solutions for FP&A Planning/Budgeting, financial reporting, Revenue/Expense Analytics, and the ongoing expansion of the Finance Data Warehouse to enable a “thin” general ledger. The ideal candidate has deep Finance Systems experience across multiple companies, a background in ERP and Finance Data Warehouses from both technical and functional perspectives, and has supported deployments of best practices. Prior Financial Systems experience is required. Knowledge of ERP systems (e.g., Oracle, Workday, SAP, PeopleSoft) is expected. Position Responsibilities
Leverage functional and technical systems expertise to drive solutions that meet current and future Finance needs Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the software lifecycle Participate in design sessions to ensure well-designed, efficient systems that meet business expectations Collaborate with FP&A, Controllers, Financial Reporting, Finance QA & Systems, Data Engineering, and Finance Technology leaders to align on goals Develop and communicate a vision and technology roadmap to build a Finance Data Lake/Warehouse Understand finance data lakes/marts and data processing/transformations using ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Informatica, DBT) Design, develop, implement, and maintain data ingestion and transformation solutions Work with cloud data solutions (Delta Lake, Iceberg, Hudi, Snowflake, Redshift or equivalent) Contribute to Revenue and Expense analytics roadmaps and implementations Influence stakeholders and manage divergent expectations Support governance and control frameworks for SOX and Audit reviews Participate in Finance and Technology discussions to align on long-term goals Translate business and functional specs into technical specs Share best practices and improve processes across teams Qualifications
15+ years of Finance Systems experience with ERP solutions (e.g., Oracle, Workday, SAP, PeopleSoft) 3+ years implementing/supporting FP&A applications (preferred) 3+ years working with Finance Data Lake/Warehouse/Mart and Financial Reporting tools Strong understanding of Dimensional Data Modeling Strong SQL and data transformation skills (ETL/ELT) Experience with major Financials vendors (PeopleSoft, Oracle EBS, Oracle Cloud, Workday, SAP) Finance domain expertise to interpret processes into system solutions Understanding of FP&A budgeting, planning, and forecasting Experience implementing or supporting Revenue/Expense analytics (Power BI, Tableau, etc.) Knowledge of accounting processes and reporting expectations Ability to communicate with users across Technology and Finance Project management knowledge and strong problem-solving abilities Ability to work independently and in a team Experience with SDLC concepts Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent Compensation
$115,000.00 - $260,000.00 per year The above salary range is a guideline. Final offer depends on factors including scope of role, candidate experience, education, location, and market considerations.
