State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Highway Maintenance, District 1 has a full-time vacancy for a Principal Engineer. This position directs and supervises highway maintenance operations within a district and administers complex engineering and administrative policies and procedures. Compensation
Pay range: $40.70/hr - $55.88/hr. Your actual pay is based on skills and experience. A Trainee Status option is available at $38.85 per hour with conditions described below. Position details: Job posting: State of New Hampshire Department: Transportation Bureau: Highway Maintenance - District 1 Location: 641 Main Street, Lancaster, NH Position #: 20449 Hours: 40 per week Note: The trainee option requires meeting minimum qualifications within one year of hire. Responsibilities
Plan, direct, and supervise the activities of a highway maintenance district to ensure integrity, mobility, and safety of the state highway system and safe all-weather travel within the district. Formulate strategies and plans to implement Department objectives; evaluate highway pavements and recommend restoration, rehabilitation, or resurfacing programs. Monitor and supervise district budgets within Department constraints; supervise surveys, plans, and construction of state aid, betterment, and other projects; serve as Engineer of Record for district projects. Consult with utilities, local officials, engineering firms, and others on utility installations within highway limits. Evaluate and issue permits for drives and monitor construction for compliance with specifications and policy. Evaluate personnel, equipment, systems, and facilities for cost-effective utilization; act as appointing authority for district staff. Respond to emergencies and inquiries from the public and elected officials; represent the Department in meetings, hearings, and court proceedings. Ensure work complies with risk management, safety, and environmental standards and regulatory orders. Qualifications
Education/Experience: Master’s degree in engineering, or a Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a Master of Business Administration, or equivalent combination; four years of civil engineering experience post licensure; or alternate combinations per announcement. Experience: Four, six, or eight years post licensure depending on education path described in the posting. Preferred: Applicant living within the highway district; after-hire requirement: NH Professional Engineer license within 12 months; valid driver’s license and ability to statewide travel; license reciprocity considerations explained in the posting. Other: Must be a Licensed Professional Engineer in NH or another state and obtain NH licensure within one year of employment.
