Senior Mechanical Power Engineer
role at
HDR . HDR's Power Generation team is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to help clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects, while serving as Engineer of Record or Owner’s Engineer. You will join a national, multi-discipline team that supports power and energy projects in the utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors. Primary duties include leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both technical and contractual levels.

Responsibilities
Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
Monitor project status and communicate progress to stakeholders; provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects.
Deliver mechanical design deliverables including construction drawings, bid specifications, sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.
Collaborate with clients and project teams to develop and implement power generation systems (simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE).
Preferred Qualifications
BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.
Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or SME.
Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.
Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm is desired.
Minimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects.
Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments; excellent communication and analytical skills.
Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.
Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget.
Position will include an expectation of less than 10% travel for client meetings, vendor visits, and project site visits.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
A minimum of 10 years of experience.
Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license.
Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).
