Receive and manage all incoming inquiries from customers, including patients, insurance companies, and USC employees via walk-ins, telephone, or written correspondence. Document all activity in the patient accounting system. Must be knowledgeable about insurance products, medical group risks, governmental programs, benefits structures, and Financial Assistance Programs. Collaborate with responsible parties regarding patient liabilities and evaluate their ability to meet obligations. Work independently with minimal supervision. Essential Duties
Provide compassionate and respectful assistance to patients and callers regarding billing questions and insurance coverage, via phone, email, or in person. Maintain successful relationships with team members and organizational groups using excellent communication and teamwork skills. Document all calls and actions, update guarantor, insurance, and demographic information. Demonstrate resourcefulness and initiative. Deescalate issues effectively, offering problem-solving options and ensuring timely follow-up. Partner with patients on Financial Assistance and payer systems, establishing payment arrangements within hospital policies. Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions as appropriate. Provide quality service, ensuring information accuracy and meeting customer needs promptly. Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. At least 2 years of experience in a high-volume organization with strong customer service background; healthcare setting preferred. Knowledge of collection techniques, insurance, and effective communication skills. Problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, and basic office equipment proficiency. Typing speed of 45 WPM, 10-key by touch, and basic math skills. Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access; understanding of hospital reimbursement methodologies, ICD-9, CPT-4, HCPCS coding, and third-party payment systems. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Licenses/Certifications
Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) required within 30 days of hire if applicable. The hourly rate range is $22.00 - $34.18. USC considers various factors when extending offers, including experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Additional Details
