Job Summary / General Statement Under the supervision of the Chief Sonographer and Medical Director, this position is responsible for independently performing 2-dimensional, color Doppler and Doppler echocardiograms. This role may assist in inventory of supplies and equipment maintenance. Requires high level knowledge to read and interpret test results, including abnormal or atypical findings.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Performs 2-dimensional, color Doppler and Doppler echocardiograms. Proficient in non-imaging continuous Doppler to diagnose and image pathologies (Valvular, Congenital, Systolic, Diastology).

Interprets test results and notifies referring physician or house officer of a preliminary report.

Assists in scheduling cardiac ultrasound procedures for inpatients and outpatients when scheduling availability is in question.

Responsible for inventory of supplies in the Echo Lab.

Responsible for daily cleaning of equipment with approved hospital disinfectant and adherence to Infection Control guidelines.

Maintains echo equipment to solve minor operating problems; difficult problems referred to the echo supervisor.

Reviews patient charts to obtain pertinent clinical history to perform tests and interpret cardiac examinations.

Explains procedure to patient and positions patient for the cardiac ultrasound examination; ensures patient comfort and understanding.

Performs portable studies daily, mobilizing equipment as needed.

Records and reviews test results for accuracy and prepares test reports; utilizes electronic medical records and reporting systems to obtain a permanent record of the cardiac examination.

Records, calculates and plots control values on instruments to ensure reliability and accuracy of results.

Maintains testing rooms in clean and orderly condition; disposes of soiled linen, stocks supplies, and cleans equipment.

Keeps current with developments in instrumentation and cardiac ultrasound techniques by reading journals and attending approved seminars.

Performs minor clerical duties as required by echo supervisor or Technical Director, such as answering phones.

Performs all other duties as necessary.

All testing is performed without physician assistance with minimal supervision by the echo supervisor.

Job Summary Continued Responsible for providing leadership, technical expertise, and coordination within the echocardiography department. This role involves performing complex echocardiography procedures, supervising technologists, and ensuring high-quality patient care.

Essential Functions

Provide leadership and guidance to echocardiography technologists, including training, mentoring, and performance evaluations.

Perform a wide range of echocardiography procedures, including transthoracic, transesophageal, stress, and 3D echocardiography.

Ensure accurate image acquisition and interpretation, utilizing advanced techniques as necessary.

Review and analyze echocardiogram images for technical quality and adherence to standards.

Prepare and position patients for echocardiography procedures, explaining the process and addressing concerns.

Oversee maintenance and calibration of echocardiography equipment to ensure optimal functionality and image quality.

Collaborate with cardiologists, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to discuss patient cases, provide technical insights, and assist with image interpretation.

Maintain accurate and detailed records of echocardiography procedures, patient information, and findings.

Qualifications

Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography preferred. Associate’s Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or equivalent program with a Cardiovascular Technologist Certificate required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.

Licenses and Credentials : ARDMS or CCI certification required.

Experience : Echocardiogram studies experience; 3-5 years preferred. Understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology and hemodynamics required.

Skills & Abilities : Technical expertise in cardiac anatomy, physiology and hemodynamics; ability to interpret and provide preliminary findings; capacity to handle complex cases with supervisor oversight; manual dexterity for ultrasound equipment; strong understanding of equipment function and ultrasound physics; patient and staff interaction for smooth lab flow; weekend availability; ability to perform bedside echocardiograms in ICUs; capable of performing all duties in this job description.

Additional : Strong communication, detail orientation, teamwork, and adaptability; ability to work with changing environments.

Compensation & Benefits Pay Range: $45.67 - $66.42 hourly. Grade 7. Base pay is an estimate and may vary by experience, education, certifications, and other factors.
