Job Title Cardiac Sonographer / Echo Tech / FULL TIME / 40 Hours / Days
Location BWH Non-Invasive Cardiology / BOSTON MAIN CAMPUS
Summary Responsible for providing leadership, technical expertise, and coordination within the echocardiography department. This role involves performing complex echocardiography procedures, supervising technologists, and ensuring high-quality patient care.

Sign-on Bonus: $10,000 for experienced Echo Techs ($3,000 for entry level to one year); details to be discussed at interview
Responsibilities
Perform 2D, color Doppler, and Doppler echocardiograms; proficiency in non-imaging continuous Doppler for diagnostic purposes.
Interpret test results and notify referring physician or house officer with a preliminary report when appropriate.
Assist in scheduling cardiac ultrasound procedures for inpatients and outpatients.
Maintain inventory of supplies in the Echo Lab and ensure equipment readiness.
Clean and disinfect equipment per Infection Control guidelines; keep testing rooms clean and orderly.
Maintain and troubleshoot echo equipment; refer complex issues to the echo supervisor.
Review patient charts to obtain relevant clinical history for accurate testing and interpretation.
Explain procedures to patients and position them appropriately for echocardiography.
Perform portable studies as needed and mobilize equipment accordingly.
Record and review test results; utilize electronic medical records and reporting systems to archive examinations.
Record, calculate, and plot control values to ensure accuracy of test results.
Maintain clean and stocked testing rooms; assist with equipment upkeep and supplies.
Stay current with developments in echocardiography through journals, seminars, and approved training.
Perform minor clerical duties as required by the echo supervisor or Technical Director.
All other duties as necessary; testing is performed with minimal supervision by the echo supervisor.
Qualifications Education
Bachelor's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography preferred. An Associate's Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or equivalent Cardiovascular Technologist Certificate is required. Experience cannot be substituted for a degree.
Licenses and Credentials
ARDCS or CCI certification required.
Experience
3-5 years of echocardiogram study experience preferred.
Understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics is required.
Skills and Abilities
Technical expertise in cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics; strong image acquisition and interpretation skills.
Ability to provide initial interpretations to referring physicians; complex cases reviewed with the echo supervisor.
Manual dexterity for ultrasound transducers and equipment panels; understanding of ultrasound physics.
Strong communication; ability to interact with patients and staff to maintain smooth lab flow.
Flexibility and ability to work weekend shifts; ability to perform bedside echocardiograms in ICUs.
Detail-oriented with accurate record-keeping; ability to collaborate and adapt to changing environments.
