Volunteer Vice President (VP) of Human Resources
is a key leader within WOCOTM’s HR department, providing strategic guidance and operational oversight across all HR functions. Reporting to the Head of HR, the VP supports the design and implementation of HR policies, volunteer engagement strategies, and learning initiatives that foster a strong, inclusive organizational culture. This role serves as a bridge between executive leadership and HR program areas, helping to ensure that the department’s efforts align with WOCOTM’s strategic goals and mission-driven focus on community empowerment. Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Leadership: Collaborate with the Head of HR to set departmental goals and performance benchmarks; oversee key HR initiatives in volunteer engagement, training, compliance, and workforce development; provide input on strategic planning, staffing structures, and talent management; serve as acting Head of HR when required. Policy & Compliance: Support the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures that promote equity, inclusion, and compliance; ensure volunteer and staff operations follow state and federal guidelines; safeguard confidentiality and uphold ethical HR standards. Volunteer & Staff Development: Partner with program leaders to forecast and fulfill volunteer needs; oversee onboarding, orientation, and retention efforts to ensure high volunteer satisfaction; collaborate with Learning & Development to strengthen leadership and professional growth programs. Culture, Communication, & Performance: Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and mission-centered organizational culture; lead efforts to recognize and celebrate volunteer and staff achievements; support conflict resolution, mediation, and staff well-being initiatives. Collaboration & Reporting Structure
The VP of HR works closely with all team members within the Human Resources Department to ensure smooth coordination, communication, and accountability. Head of HR
— Provides guidance and strategic direction; the VP serves as their direct report and key advisor. Director of Learning & Development (L&D)
— Collaborates with the VP to align training initiatives with organizational goals; the VP provides feedback on leadership pathways and skill-building programs. Volunteer Recruiter
— Partners with the VP to ensure recruitment strategies align with WOCOTM’s values and diversity objectives; the VP helps establish standards for onboarding and engagement. HR Coordinator & Administrative Team
— Works under the direction of the VP and Head of HR to manage daily HR operations, recordkeeping, and internal communications. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or Organizational Leadership (Master’s or SHRM certification preferred). Minimum of 4–6 years of HR leadership experience (nonprofit or volunteer management experience a plus). Strong knowledge of HR compliance, DEI, and workforce development practices. Proven leadership, mentorship, and communication skills. Commitment to WOCOTM’s mission and values. Knowledge of AI is a plus. Personal Attributes
