Responsibilities
Perform day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities where state and federal laws/regulations allow, ensuring efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serve as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.
Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within authorized company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics.
Lead the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management of pharmacy technicians. Make decisions regarding performance management including discipline and termination.
Customer Experience
Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolve customer complaints, respond to requests in a timely manner, and answer non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Model and share customer service best practices.
Develop strong relationships with customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services to provide the best experience when using the pharmacy. Enhance customer experience by increasing focus on healthcare services.
Operations
Assist the pharmacist in patient care delivery, including patient registration, prescription data entry, preparation of medications, counting, and verification where allowed by law. Complete patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision and assist with healthcare service offerings including administering vaccines, health screenings, and other health services allowed by law.
Under company policies and applicable laws, exercise independent judgment to delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy. Ensure on-time task completion and accountability for efficient workflow.
Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and government agencies under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist.
Manage core pharmacy workflow, coordinate daily activities, and allocate pharmacy hours. Ensure the pharmacy is clean, neat, orderly, and stocked with supplies.
Under pharmacist direction, ensure compliance and execution of all business administrative activities and inventory management tasks that do not require licensure. Manage annual inventory preparation.
Complete non-clinical patient calls and drive new technology/process rollouts. Champion change and engage the team around action planning. Ensure proper operation and maintenance of department equipment and safeguard records and security in collaboration with the Pharmacy Manager.
Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies during applicable prescription-dispensing activities and understand role in ensuring elements of Good Faith Dispensing are met.
Maintain asset protection practices and support diversion monitoring; report any concerns to the Pharmacy Manager.
Communicate prescription errors to the accountable pharmacist and follow company policies on errors and continuous quality improvement programs.
Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims, resolve issues, follow up with insurers and providers, and participate in third-party audits.
Assist and support Store Manager and Pharmacy Manager in analyzing and improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service.
Manage Community Outreach Portal and coordinate pharmacist assignments to off-site immunization clinics and community events; build and sustain relationships with retail partnerships.
People & Performance Management
Lead performance management of technicians, including decisions regarding discipline and termination. Apply constructive discipline policies to ensure compliance with state and federal laws; hold technicians accountable for attendance and timeliness; promote performance through engagement and action planning.
Oversee technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling. Monitor and ensure timely training completion according to company policies.
Identify gaps in team knowledge and support training through hands-on coaching or learning modules.
Monitor licensures, registrations, and certifications for all pharmacy staff; use resources to document licensure status and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
Ensure processes for selection, recruitment, record retention, and training comply with company policy and laws.
Training & Personal Development
Maintain and renew PTCB certification or state-required certification/registration.
Maintain and enhance knowledge related to pharmacy and healthcare; pursue certifications and education credits as required by the company.
Engage in professional development, seek feedback, and leverage mentorship for growth.
Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team and relay messages from support centers and key emails as required.
Participate in store/pharmacy meetings, including brief daily huddles and weekly check-ins with the Store Manager.
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management/leadership experience.
Previous Walgreens experience with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation.
