The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN4 On-Call)
for Washington Corrections Center located in Shelton, Washington. Under the direct or indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse 4 supports the Department’s mission to improve public safety by assisting in the implementation of the nursing process and delivering services to promote, foster healing, and support coping and adjustment to various health conditions. Salary and shift premiums: Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses will receive shift differential in the amount of
$2.50
per hour for evening shift and night shift work. Employees may also qualify for one or both of these supplemental shift premiums in addition to the above:
$1.00
per hour during any hours from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and
$3.00
per hour during any hours from Friday midnight to Sunday midnight. Responsibilities Practice nursing safely and effectively in the correctional setting and within the scope of practice defined by state law and administrative code. Monitor and collect data about health status, clinical condition, or situation of individuals, families, groups, and communities by interview, observation, inspection, and examination; report results to the Registered Nurse. Assist the Registered Nurse in developing nursing diagnoses and outcomes to be achieved as a result of nursing intervention. Contribute to the development of the plan of nursing care including identification of approaches, timeframes, and pathways for the delivery of health care; assist in prioritizing and sequencing care to ensure continuity of care over time and place. Carry out the plan of care by performing common therapeutic nursing interventions, informing others about urgency, time, and methods to deliver health care on and off site; determine when needs for care or services are beyond the LPN scope of practice and obtain direction from the Registered Nurse as needed. Assist the Registered Nurse in analysis and evaluation of service delivery, treatment outcomes, and revise the plan of care as necessary. Employ appropriate safety techniques to push, pull, lift, and carry loads in accordance with policies. Delegate and assign tasks to other staff as appropriate; supervise and assign tasks to subordinate nursing staff and evaluate the implementation of tasks. Self-evaluate and practice professional nursing conduct at all times; be capable and competent to practice nursing as assigned; brief appropriate personnel before departing to ensure continuity of patient care. Provide effective communication and documentation: communicate verbally, in writing, and via computer with incarcerated individuals, their families, other health care personnel, custody, and institutional staff; legibly document findings and actions; protect confidentiality; maintain accurate records; coordinate information for community-based care; complete unusual incident reports as directed. Administer medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse; oversee the medication administration area, participate in medication lines, process medication orders, and provide patient education regarding medications. Provide competent patient care: participate in treatments and dressing changes, monitor vital signs, assist with minor surgical procedures within the scope of nursing practice and proper training; evaluate and carry out orders from licensed practitioners; provide emergency medical care, including CPR. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: Initial and continuous unencumbered licensure in the State of Washington as a Licensed Practical Nurse. –OR– An unencumbered Multistate License from a participating Compact Licensure State with completion of Suicide Prevention, EDIR training, and MLS demographic survey. Two years of experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Training by the American Heart Association in Healthcare Provider CPR. Proficient using computer-based programs to schedule, monitor and track patient information, perform data entry, and word processing, and communicate via email, as well as other programs needed to complete assigned work. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working as a nurse in an acute care setting or a correctional facility. Certification as a Correctional Healthcare Professional.
