$33.86-$45.57 The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified on-call Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN4) for the Airway Heights Corrections Center located in Airway Heights, WA. Under the direct or indirect supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse 4 supports the Department’s mission to improve public safety by assisting in the implementation of the nursing process and delivering services to promote health, foster healing, and support coping and adjustment of various health conditions. The Airway Heights Correction Center facility offers both inpatient and outpatient care to treat a diverse patient population with varying levels of health needs.

Responsibilities

Practice nursing safely and effectively in the correctional setting and within the scope of practice defined by state law and administrative code.

Monitor and collect data about health status and report results to the Registered Nurse.

Assist the Registered Nurse in developing nursing diagnoses and outcomes to be achieved as a result of nursing intervention.

Contribute to the plan of nursing care, identify approaches and timeframes, and help prioritize and sequence care.

Carry out the plan of care by performing common therapeutic nursing interventions and notify the Registered Nurse if urgent actions are needed.

Assist in analysis and evaluation of care delivery and revise the plan of care as necessary.

Follow safety techniques to push, pull, lift, and carry loads as required by policies.

Delegate and assign tasks to other staff as appropriate.

Delegate and assign patient care to other LPNs and assistive personnel after considering patient condition and task complexity.

Instruct, monitor, supervise, and evaluate the implementation of tasks and patient care results.

Supervise delegated nursing tasks and report outcomes to the Registered Nurse or supervising health care provider.

Self-evaluate and practice professional nursing conduct at all times.

Maintain readiness to practice nursing as assigned.

Brief appropriate personnel before departing to ensure continuity of patient care.

Provide effective communication and documentation.

Communicate with offenders, families, health care personnel, custody, and institutional staff in verbal and written forms.

Legibly document clinical findings and actions taken; protect health record confidentiality.

Maintain accurate patient care records.

Coordinate health care for patients receiving community-based care and complete encounter forms.

Complete unusual incident reports as directed and collect data as needed.

Respond to requests from offenders and institution staff.

Administer medication.

Assist in overseeing medication administration area and patient care related to medications.

Participate in medication lines and administer medications as ordered by providers.

Provide patient education regarding medications and prepare release medications for offender transfer or release.

Provide competent patient care.

Serve as lead clinical nurse in the treatment room when delegated.

Participate in treatment, dressing changes, monitor vital signs, and assist with minor procedures within the scope of nursing practice.

Evaluate and carry out licensed practitioners’ orders; provide emergency care including CPR.

Qualifications

Initial and continuous unencumbered licensure in the State of Washington as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

OR an unencumbered Multistate License from a participating Compact Licensure State with completion of Suicide Prevention, EDIR training, and MLS demographic survey.

Two years of experience working as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

Training by the American Heart Association in Healthcare Provider CPR.

Proficient using computer-based programs to schedule, monitor and track patient information, perform data entry, and word processing, and communicate via email, as well as other programs that may be needed to complete assigned work.

Employees may work with or near incarcerated individuals in a potentially hazardous setting.

OC spray exposure and animal care programs may be present; applicants with sensitivities should ask about exposure levels.

TB testing may be required; employment is not contingent upon test results.

This position may be represented by a bargaining unit.

Respirator medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection may be required.

Must be able to work in spaces, climb stairs, walk long distances, and lift up to 30 pounds (rarely up to 50 pounds, push up to 100 pounds).

Foreign degrees require credential evaluation (WES or AICE). Until documentation is provided, you will not be advanced in hiring.

Candidates must have work authorization that does not require sponsorship for a visa.

Salary is based on experience and will be determined at final offer. The range includes Steps A-M and Step M is a longevity step.
