Overview
Mortenson Engineering Services is seeking a Structural Engineer to support utility-scale solar photovoltaic and battery storage projects. In this role, you will collaborate with senior engineers and contribute to projects from the pursuit phase through construction, focusing on the design of stable and durable structural systems, including foundations and piles, to support racking systems, electrical enclosures, and other critical infrastructure. Locations: Minneapolis, MN; Denver, CO; Fargo, ND; San Antonio, TX. Office based role 40-45 hr./week Responsibilities
Design foundations and structural systems for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects, ensuring stability and durability. Analyze site-specific geotechnical data, environmental conditions, and load requirements (e.g., wind, seismic, and snow loads) to determine appropriate pile types, depths, and configurations. Ensure designs comply with industry standards (e.g., ASCE), local codes, and customer requirements while optimizing cost, constructability, and long-term performance. Assist in reviewing vendor documentation, validating field conditions, and resolving site issues. Interface with operating group partners, customers and gather technical data to recommend solutions. Present to multiple stakeholders (e.g. customer decision makers, project teams) as needed. Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and Design Phase Managers to deliver design deliverables. Assist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditions. Basic project management and analytical problem-solving skills. Working knowledge of or familiarity with software packages such as LPile, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, etc. Qualifications
B.S. in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent is required. Minimum of two years’ experience in geotechnical engineering and/or structural engineering. EIT preferred and ability to pursue PE license in the future. Ability to work on a team and perform individual tasks. Willingness to travel (up to 10%) for occasional site visits or field support. The base pay range for this role is $79,800 - $107,700 per year. (Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan. Base pay range: $79,800 - $107,700.
