Overview
Base pay range: $22.50/hr - $31.00/hr. This role is a full-time Pharmacy Operations Manager focused on non-clinical pharmacy operations, administrative activities, and ensuring efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Responsibilities
Operate day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities where allowed by state and federal laws/regulations; ensure an efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serve as a full-time certified pharmacy technician where applicable.
Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervise pharmacy technicians and pharmacists cashiers within approved policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics.
Lead the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Lead training, coaching, and performance management of technicians; make decisions regarding performance management including discipline and termination.
Engage customers and patients by greeting them, assisting with products and services, resolving complaints, responding to requests in a timely manner, and answering non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Develop relationships by anticipating needs and promoting healthcare services.
Assist pharmacist in patient care delivery, including patient registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation (counting and verification where allowed by law), and completing patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision. Support health services such as administering vaccines and health screenings where allowed by law.
Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work in the pharmacy within company policies and applicable laws; ensure timely completion and enforce efficient workflow.
Prepare and file reports and records required by the company and government agencies under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist.
Drive pharmacy operations excellence: manage daily schedule, allocate hours, ensure the pharmacy is clean, stocked, and organized; oversee inventory management and annual inventory preparation. Ensure compliance with business administrative activities and recordkeeping; uphold security safeguards.
Support the rollout of new technology/processes, engage the team in change initiatives, and coordinate action planning. Maintain operation of pharmacy equipment and protect assets; assist in recordkeeping.
Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy in all applicable dispensing activities and understand the role in ensuring such elements are met.
Monitor and report any diversion concerns; maintain appropriate asset protection practices; communicate prescription errors per policy and participate in continuous quality improvement.
Resolve insurance claim issues, follow up with insurers and providers, and participate in 3rd party audits; assist in improving pharmacy financials, operational quality, and customer service.
Manage Community Outreach Portal and coordinate pharmacist assignments to off-site immunization clinics and events; build and sustain relationships with retail partnerships.
People & Performance Management
Lead technician performance management, including discipline and termination decisions; enforce constructive discipline policies and ensure compliance with state and federal laws. Maintain attendance and timeliness, and drive engagement and action planning to improve performance.
Oversee technician hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling; monitor training completion and enforce scheduling policies.
Identify knowledge gaps and support team members through hands-on training or learning modules; ensure licensure, registrations, and certifications are active and compliant.
Support recruitment, record retention, and training procedures per company policy and legal requirements.
Training & Personal Development
Maintain PTCB certification or state-required certification/registration.
Maintain and enhance knowledge related to pharmacy and healthcare; pursue certifications and education credits as required; participate in performance improvement plans as directed.
Seek professional development, solicit feedback, and engage a supervisor as mentor and coach.
Communication
Communicate with the pharmacy team; relay messages from support centers and other stakeholders as required.
Participate in store/pharmacy meetings and regular check-ins with the Store Manager.
Basic Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Willingness to obtain active immunization certification within 90 days of hire (except in Community Specialty Pharmacy and Health System Pharmacy locations).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous people management/leadership experience.
Previous work experience with Walgreens with an Exceeding Expectation on last performance evaluation.
