Overview
Position Overview The agent in this position will have educational responsibilities in all phases of livestock production, forage, field crops, and waste management. The successful candidate must be able to conduct educational programs that focus on the profitability and sustainability of North Carolina livestock, utilizing best practices based on research, including the adoption of proven technology, business, and financial practices. The successful candidate will be responsible for applied research development in the program area. The Livestock Agent will be responsible for leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating an effective livestock educational program to meet the needs of the county and will work to ensure educational programs have measurable impacts. Provide leadership in planning, implementing, marketing, and evaluating educational programs and activities with measurable impacts. Be a team player and support the total Extension program. Network with broad audiences, customers, volunteers, Extension Specialists, and local Extension staff. Actively seek outside resources to enhance the program. Develop and implement innovative strategies for presenting educational programs. Provide leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of an effective livestock educational program to meet county needs. Maintain a strong background in livestock production and 4-H youth livestock development; include responsibilities for forages. Other Work/Responsibilities
Knowledge of cattle production (beef and dairy) and small livestock operations (backyard poultry, fiber animals, niche meat production) to meet the county’s educational needs. Work closely with 4-H staff and volunteers involved with youth livestock programming to create an impactful county program. Serve on the Haywood County Fair Planning Committee. Coordinate all youth livestock and poultry shows for the annual county fair. Requirements and Preferences
Work Schedule: 8:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday. Nights and weekends as required. Educational requirements: One of the following: A Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 overall or 3.0 in an agricultural or related field (minimum GPA requirement waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor’s degree). A Bachelor’s degree and completion of at least half of Master’s degree coursework with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in an agricultural or related field, or Completion of a Master’s degree with at least one degree in an agricultural or related field. Frequent travel within the county and occasional travel outside the county. Strong background in livestock production and 4-H youth livestock development. Additional Information
