Overview We’re partnering a mission-driven climate tech startup building software to accelerate the clean energy transition. They are profitable, growing, and focused on making a real impact on decarbonizing the U.S. power grid.
Your Impact (Responsibilities) As a Data Engineer, you’ll design, build, and scale the data infrastructure and pipelines that power critical decision-making for renewable energy projects. Your work will directly support utilities, developers, and transmission planners in identifying where and how clean energy can be deployed faster.
Develop robust ETL pipelines for energy and grid datasets
Build and optimize data models that feed analytics, dashboards, and customer-facing features
Automate ingestion and transformation of large, complex energy datasets (e.g., transmission, generation, interconnection, load)
Ensure data quality, reliability, and performance across the platform
Contribute to backend services and occasionally support new product features in collaboration with the engineering team
About / Qualifications
You have 4+ years of professional experience in data engineering or related backend roles
Strong Python skills with experience in building data pipelines (e.g., pandas, dagster, Airflow)
Proficient with SQL and database design (relational or analytical stores)
Experience handling large or complex datasets; bonus if familiar with energy/grid data
Comfortable working cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, and domain experts
Motivated by climate impact and excited to support the renewable energy industry
Thrive in ambiguity and take initiative on large, loosely-defined projects
Collaborative, pragmatic, and flexible—especially in a startup environment
Familiarity with GraphQL, REST APIs, or cloud-native data tooling is a plus
