Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer Systems – Global Systems Interfaces & Capability SME (24-421) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight.

Essential Functions:

Possesses demonstrable skills in

full-cycle systems engineering

of new capabilities.

System interface design & Interface Control Document development.

The SME will apply these results to enhance C2BMC for space mission applications.

Must understand systems engineering processes and principles and communicate the desired capabilities to diverse developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and system users.

The applicant should be comfortable with rapidly changing requirements, design challenges that require novel solutions, fast-paced activities, and tight deadlines.

Must have 3+ years of experience leading or contributing to an integrated team environment with other systems, software, and specialty engineers to develop solutions that include a background in all systems engineering life cycle aspects.

The SME should have demonstrated experience in defining, developing, and integrating systems-of-systems.

Demonstrated the ability to analyze high-level needs and defined a structured and logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that led to a fielded product.

Demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively, clearly present technical approaches and findings, and have experience writing and implementing project engineering plans.

Basic Qualifications:

Current and Active TS/SCI clearance is required to start.

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree and 3 years of experience, or a PhD and 1 year of experience.

Capability and requirement derivation based on customer needs.

Knowledge base and experience and/or skills for:

Operations Concept (OPSCON)

Concept of Operations (CONOPS) development

System and subsystem decomposition Integration practices and methods.

Analysis using Excel and scenario logs.

Operating systems experience with

Windows

&

Unix/Linux Algorithm

design and implementation.

DoD Architecture Framework ( DoDAF ).

Theory and Applying the BMDS Theory and applying command and control systems.

Theory and application of track correlation algorithms.

Probability theory and optimal state estimation.

Familiarity with applying and using systems engineering tools for requirements management.

Knowledge and experience with the

methodology for software development.

Salary Range:

$97,500 - $146,300
