Attention Revenue! Your Audit Division is now hiring two

Roving Revenue Auditor 2s . This unique position will be based at one of our Washington State locations; however, it requires significant travel (up to 51% of the time). The audit coverage will include the North or East United States. In addition to your base salary, you will receive an additional 10% assignment pay as an in-state Roving Revenue Auditor (not included in the salary stated above). This position does not require moving.

What does Rover do? Serves as a journey-level auditor by independently identifying and conducting audits of registered and unregistered taxpayers with an emphasis on business activities subject to economic nexus. This will include independent investigations and audits of small to mid‑size national and multinational, technically diverse business firms, their affiliates, subsidiaries, and divisions, whose business records are maintained at offices located outside the State of Washington.

The Rover tasks include:

Evaluates business activities and accounting records to determine if taxpayers are in compliance with applicable tax laws and have correctly reported their tax liability.

Establishes or confirms the presence of nexus concerning Washington business activities using various tools, including but not limited to taxpayer interviews, internet research, and the Washington Business Activities Questionnaire.

Responsible for effectively managing an inventory of audit assignments to ensure department and division goals are met.

May assist with audits of the largest national and multinational technically diverse business firms, their affiliates, subsidiaries, and divisions whose business records are maintained at offices located outside the State of Washington.

Participate in Training efforts and quality improvement projects within the agency.

Provide written and verbal guidance and attempt to resolve conflicts and disagreements that occur with taxpayers during the course of auditing.

Identify, investigate, and submit leads for possible future audit selection.

The required qualifications are key competencies that have been successfully demonstrated through experience or education. To join our team, you must possess the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies:

Knowledge of Accounting Principles and Tools

Basic understanding of accounting principles, including financial statements, general ledgers, and journal entries.

Experience using Excel functions and formulas to organize, analyze, and summarize data.

Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Research, Analysis, and Problem Solving

Ability to understand and solve problems by applying intermediate analytical skills, including collecting all the relevant information and data needed to reach a conclusion.

Ability to synthesize data into fundamental issues and manageable components, identifying the logical outcomes from the analyses of the data collected.

Ability to research, interpret, and apply federal and state tax laws to determine correct tax reporting.

Planning and Organization

Experience managing multiple assignments or projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion.

Ability to regularly evaluate progress on assignments and adjust organization, priority, time, method, etc., to meet deadlines.

Communication (Written and verbal)

Ability to convey complex information in layman’s terms to generate understanding and reach agreement.

Ability to navigate challenging conversations and deliver unfavorable outcomes about tax implications to businesses and representatives in a professional manner.

Experience communicating effectively and professionally, in both verbal and written form.

Experience in composing written communication that effectively conveys ideas or information to the intended reader.

Adaptability

Possess an openness toward changing ideas, responsibilities, strategies, and processes.

Experience working with a high degree of autonomy and also participating collaboratively as part of a team.

Preference may be granted to any candidate with a combination of professional experience or education, such as:

Demonstrated professional experience in the required competencies.

Four or more years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, tax compliance, or tax administration.

A bachelor’s degree in accounting.

24 semester or 36 quarter hours of college-level accounting.
