Salary $24.16 - $36.24 Hourly $50,248 - $75,372 Annually This position is a Pay Band C6 The New Mexico Department of Health (NMHealth) works to ensure a healthier New Mexico. The NMHealth Office of Injury and Violence Prevention (OIVP) is a section of the Injury and Behavioral Epidemiology Bureau within the Center for Health Protection located in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Why does the job exist? The New Mexico Violent Death Reporting System Data Abstractor is housed in the Office of Injury and Violence Prevention (OIVP), and compiles data related to violent deaths (i.e., homicides, suicides) in New Mexico. This position abstracts information from death certificates, medical examiners, coroners and law enforcement agencies that report on the circumstances of violent death. How does it get done? Statistical analysis of data on injury and violence including epidemiological surveillance, data requests, bill analyses, and data dissemination; support the epidemiology unit, injury & violence prevention programs, partners and communities with data analysis needs; support grant management and coordination for the NM VDRS. Who are the customers? The citizens of New Mexico Ideal Candidate IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS include: At least one year of direct data entry experience. Data entry skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. Ability to assist with data quality checks Ability to use microsoft office products (excel, word, etc). Ability to work in a dynamic and fast paced environment and be responsive to multiple priorities and deadlines that meet state and federal regulations. Minimum Qualification Associate Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or Accounting and one (1) year of directly related job experience in the areas of office administration, budgeting, purchasing, finance, accounting, auditing, cash management, contract management, and/or in the procedures of business and management principles involved in strategic planning. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting to twenty-five (25) pounds may be required. Some travel is required.
