Varsity Coach
Description Of Basic Functions And Responsibilities
The Varsity Coach has knowledge of the fundamental and advanced skills and techniques for the specific sport. The Varsity Coach instills commitment, discipline, and teamwork and follows the CIF/CCS Coaches Code of Conduct and the BVAL Coaches Code of Conduct. The Varsity Coach communicates with parents, students, staff and the community. The Head Varsity Coach is responsible for oversight of all levels within the program/sport.
Supervisor:
Athletic Director under the direction of the site principal
Major Duties And Responsibilities
Demonstrates knowledge of the rules and fundamental skills and techniques, as well as the advanced techniques needed for the sport.
Demonstrates personality and character traits appropriate to educational leadership.
Demonstrates the ability to organize practices and design an appropriate conditioning program for the sport.
Demonstrates successful management and organization skills including following all district guidelines and policies.
Demonstrates the ability to work with parent groups, administrators, staff and students.
Demonstrates the ability to maintain positive communication with the community.
Instills commitment, discipline, and teamwork in a group of students with varying athletic ability and backgrounds.
Helps students balance a demanding academic workload with athletic commitments.
Demonstrates knowledge of district fiscal and cash handling procedures/protocols related to fundraising, purchasing supplies, tournament fees, and other funds for the sport.
Maintains and inventories equipment and uniforms to ensure student safety and minimize loss.
Follows the CIF/CCSBVAL Coaches Code of Conduct and BVAL policies and guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
Playing experience in the sport at high school, collegiate, amateur, or professional level.
High school coaching experience at the Junior Varsity level or in youth leagues/middle school in the same sport, or equivalent experience.
Current State of California coaching certifications.
Current certification required by the East Side Union High School District, including annual mandated reporter training.
Must pass District Fingerprint clearance.
Professional references.
Requirements / Qualifications
Must complete EdJoin online application, and submit a Cover Letter and Resume.
Selected candidates must pass fingerprint clearance and provide current TB test results, valid CPR certification, valid First Aid certification, ASEP certification, Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Certification, Heat Illness Prevention Certificate, Mandated Reporter training, Sexual Harassment training, Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Prevention, Integrated Pest Management and Concussion certification prior to employment.
Note: Compensation for a hired coaching position is conditional on lifting of restrictions and the team’s authorized participation in the sports season.
