Overview
A leading multi-strategy hedge fund in New York City is seeking a Head of Tax to oversee all tax planning, structuring, and compliance across both the management company and fund accounting functions. This senior role will manage a team of high-performing tax professionals and serve as a strategic advisor to firm leadership, driving all aspects of global tax strategy in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Base pay
Base pay range: $160,000.00/yr - $190,000.00/yr Additional compensation types
Annual Bonus, RSUs, and Stock options Responsibilities
Oversee all tax planning, structuring, and compliance for both management company and fund entities. Lead consulting calls with external tax advisors and stay current on evolving tax legislation, briefing senior management on implications and recommended actions. Continuously evaluate and implement optimal tax structures for both management company and fund operations. Conduct analysis of the tax impact of new office openings, employee relocations, and expansions into new jurisdictions. Manage relationships with external accounting/tax firms for K-1 preparation and global tax filings. Oversee complex partnership allocations, deferred compensation arrangements, and pass-through entity tax withholding and remittance. Advise partners and liaise with their tax providers to ensure optimal tax outcomes and awareness of firm-level changes. Lead tax structuring for new fund launches, including multi-investor and customized fund-of-one vehicles. Research tax implications of portfolio investments and respond to security-specific tax inquiries from portfolio managers. Evaluate tax considerations related to onboarding new portfolio managers, products, and emerging market investments. Maintain global tax compliance across U.S. and international jurisdictions, coordinating closely with finance, legal, and external partners. Qualifications
10–18 years of progressive tax experience within hedge funds, private equity, or other alternative investment environments. Demonstrated expertise in partnership taxation and fund/manager structures (e.g., master-feeder, GP/LP, single investor vehicles). Proven ability to lead tax strategy and oversee all aspects of the function in a complex, multi-entity environment. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred. Self-starter with strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills. Collaborative mindset with the ability to partner cross-functionally across finance, operations, and investment teams.
