Scope of work The consultancy will support UNICEF in preparing high‑quality written technical content for the AU meeting and the UN 2026 Water Conference. The work includes:
Development and review of technical content, session plans, talking points for meetings with Ministers, briefing notes for UNICEF senior management and policy asks to stakeholders.
Support for consultations with stakeholders to inform the thematic dialogue.
Strategic advice and insights for potential political positioning of UNICEF WASH in the UN 2026 Water Conference.
Key deliverables
Draft narrative report and policy recommendations (~6,000 words) for the AU State of Africa Children’s report, due January 2026.
Draft outline of the AU report, due October 2025.
Draft concept paper for the UN 2026 Water Conference Interactive Dialogue report, due November 2025.
Full narrative paper (~8,000 words) for the UN 2026 Water Conference, due 2026 as per timeline.
Stakeholder webinars and consultations: 1 and 2 (March 2026), 3 (June 2026), 4 (September 2026).
Qualifications
Advanced university degree in a WASH‑related field. Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience accepted in lieu of a master’s.
Minimum 15 years of high‑level professional experience in a development context, preferably with in‑depth WASH sector experience.
Knowledge of SDG 6 accelerator framework, Water Action Decade, JMP, GLAAS and other sector initiatives.
Familiarity with UNICEF programming and reporting systems, especially in WASH.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and deliver high‑quality results.
Experience working with the United Nations or an international organization desirable.
Requirements
Completed profile in UNICEF’s e‑Recruitment system.
Upload copy of academic credentials.
Financial proposal including per‑deliverable costs, travel, subsistence, visa, insurance and other estimates, in US$.
Indication of availability.
Proof of current health insurance coverage for the contract period.
Travel and Visa
Two trips to Nairobi, each of 5 days.
For US‑citizens, G4 visa and EAD for household members may be required.
