Job Description and Duties California Department of Insurance (CDI) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Special Investigator with strong investigative aptitude. Incumbents report to the Supervising Special Investigator I – Non‑Peace Officer. Responsibilities include:

Conducting insurance investigations related to regulatory compliance and/or criminal investigations, enforcing California and Federal laws regarding the insurance transaction.

Performing flight, search and arrest duties under California Penal Code 830.11 and the 832 arrest course.

Traveling within and outside California as required, including overnight stays.

Maintaining a Statement of Economic Interest and complying with Conflict of Interest Code requirements.

Background check and fingerprinting are required. The position is classified under California Penal Code for limited peace officer powers.

Qualifications and Special Requirements

Background investigation clearance prior to hiring.

Degree and/or school transcripts.

Resume.

Age verification documentation (ID, birth certificate, etc.).

Completion of the Criminal Record Supplemental Questionnaire (CRSQ).

Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience with computer databases.

Adherence to the Personal Leave Program 2025 pay differential guidelines.
