California Department of Insurance is recruiting for a Special Investigator in the Valencia Regional Office, Los Angeles County. Telework is Hybrid. Job Type: Permanent, Full Time. Under the general direction of the Supervising Special Investigator I – Non-Peace Officer (Supervising Investigator) or designee, incumbents perform insurance investigations relating to regulatory compliance and/or criminal investigations, including the enforcement of California and Federal laws related to the transaction of insurance. Special Investigators within the Investigation Division are designated under California Penal Code 830.11 as officers of the state authorized to exercise limited peace officer powers, such as arrests and the execution of search warrants, upon completion of a Penal Code 832-Arrest course. This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The appointee is required to complete a Statement of Economic Interest (Form 700) and related filing requirements. The role may involve background checks and other requirements as part of the hiring process. Additional duties include handling investigations to support regulatory compliance and/or criminal investigations and related administrative tasks as described in the Duty Statement. Qualifications and Requirements

Required prerequisites include completion of a Background Investigation prior to hire. Candidates should be proficient with computer databases and Microsoft Office tools (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Special Requirements include a Background Investigation clearance and submission of required documents (degree, transcripts, license, certificate). The position requires eligibility considerations such as exam lists, transfer eligibility, and degree/transcript submissions. CRIMINAL RECORD SUPPLEMENTAL QUESTIONNAIRE (CRSQ) is required. Base pay range and California pay range information are provided; final pay is based on skills and experience. New state candidates may be hired at the minimum of the classification or alternate range when applicable. Salary ranges listed reflect various classifications: $5,528.00 – $6,863.00 A; $6,310.00 – $8,217.00 B; $6,924.00 – $9,037.00 C.
