Overview

Special Investigator position with the California Department of Insurance (CDI). This recruitment is for the Valencia Regional Office located in Valencia, CA. The role involves regulatory and/or criminal investigations related to the transaction of insurance, and may require travel within or outside California. Responsibilities

Perform insurance investigations relating to regulatory compliance and/or criminal investigations, including enforcement of California and Federal laws related to the transaction of insurance. Navigate a variety of computer databases and use software tools including Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Travel as required, including potential overnight stays, within and/or outside California by private or public transportation. Assist in enforcing the California Penal Code provisions applicable to investigators and exercise appropriate powers upon completion of required training. Complete required forms and statements (e.g., reports, financial interest statements) in accordance with applicable codes and policies. Qualifications

Background check and fingerprinting are required prior to hire. Experience with investigative work and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with variety in duties. Strong aptitude for computer-based investigations and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to comply with Conflict of Interest Code requirements and related filings (e.g., Form 700) as part of the appointment process. Acceptance of travel and ability to work in a role that may involve sensitive regulatory matters. Salary and Benefits

Salary ranges include multiple bands: $5,528.00 - $6,863.00 A; $6,310.00 - $8,217.00 B; $6,924.00 - $9,037.00 C. New state candidates are hired at the minimum of the classification or alternate range when applicable. The posting notes that PLP 2025 may affect take-home pay; salary ranges shown do not reflect PLP reductions. Work Location and Schedule
